Summer 2022 INSIDE: The Benefits of Beta • Page 2 Support Through Scholarships • Page 3 Congratulations, Graduates! • Page 4 BETA CHRONICLE BETA CHRONICLE Beta Omicron Chapter of Beta Theta Pi at the University of Texas T he spring semester saw Beta Omicron ramping up our efforts on all fronts. For philanthropy, we partnered with BYX for IFC's Round-Up and had over 800 attendees at our concert, raising an estimated $70,000 to be donated to local Austin causes. Our Casino Night was a great success as well, with the highest attendance in event history, resulting in an $8,000 donation to Comfort Crew for Military Kids. Beyond giving back to the local community, Beta has been recognized in our own campus community by the Sorority and Fraternity Life department at UT. We received awards for Outstanding Service or Philanthropy and Scholastic Excellence in a competitive pool of all fraternities and sororities on campus, including councils other than IFC and Panhellenic. In addition, Dave Kelly '22 won the Hyperion Award—the highest individual award granted by SFL—for his contributions to IFC as president, for mentoring our younger brothers, and for embodying our Chapter's values. Max Gauger '23, our VP of education, facilitated a holistic pledge education program ensuring our pledges learned Beta history and lore extensively, while also teaching life skills such as confidence, appreciation, and professionalism. These nine new initiates are fully prepared to live out Beta's principles and take active roles in our Chapter. As pledgeship came to a close, Preston Nicol '23, VP of recruitment, worked extensively to revamp the structure of the Recruitment Committee to increase efficiency in outreach and communication. We are at the beginning stages of recruiting for the fall 2022 class, with recruits already meeting the brothers. The ambition and morale for this recruitment cycle is the highest I have seen during my time in Beta, and we aim to recruit the largest pledge class since our refounding. We would greatly appreciate referrals from our alumni, which can be sent to recruitment@texasbeta.org. In closing, we have wrapped up one of our greatest semesters, and we intend to continue improving in all areas. We would also like to give a huge thanks to our alumni for the continuous belief and support you provide us to further Beta Theta Pi's mission. Yours in _kai_, Matthew Donohue '23 Chapter President Preston Nicol '23, George Jordan '23, and Matthew Donohue '23 man Smokey the Cannon for UT's baseball game against the Air Force Falcons at Disch Field on April 20. The Chapter celebrates the initiation of our nine spring pledges. Scott Evans '94 also came to see his son, Davis Evans '24, take the same vows he once did. Setting the Standard for Fraternal Excellence Brothers Instill Beta Values in New Recruits Family, friends, and brothers gather for our annual Casino Night fundraiser benefiting Comfort Crew for Military Kids (CCMK). Our Chapter was able to make an $8,000 donation to the organization while celebrating a wonderful night. Brothers serenade our new sweethearts to formally recognize their selection. Twenty-five members volunteer at the Austin Marathon in February, securing a $1,000 donation to CCMK in recognition of their efforts.
