Page 2 David H. Herrold '92 has moved from Tulsa, Okla., to Dallas, Texas, to join a downtown Dallas law firm as a partner. He now maintains a full-service practice in both Oklahoma and Texas. Though outside influences weighed on Gerry Bracht '73 and his decision for whether or not to join Greek life, he realized that joining Beta Theta Pi was one of the best choices he could make during his time on campus. "My older brother, Andy Bracht '69, was a Beta at Texas. I got to know many of the Beta actives even before graduating from high school," Gerry said. "I looked at other fraternities, but in the end, I thought Beta was the best fit for me." Despite a time of uncertainty, Gerry recognized the benefits of friendship, camaraderie, and brotherhood through Beta Omicron Chapter. In his sophomore year, he served as the pledge trainer for Beta Omicron Chapter and made lasting connections through Beta Theta Pi. He knows the value of active members taking every opportunity they can with the Chapter. "My association with the members of the Fraternity motivated me to try to do the best I could in school," he said. "My advice to undergraduates is to go to every class, take notes, and keep up with required reading. Don't make the mistake of falling behind and relying on cramming." Gerry earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with highest honors in 1973, and a juris doctorate with honors in 1976. Before retiring in 2018, Gerry spent over 40 years as a trial lawyer in major Houston law firms. He represented businesses and individuals in areas such as personal injury, securities, and products liability. He was general counsel of his firm for the last 10 years of his career, but he now enjoys spending time with his family in retirement. "I keep up with some of my brothers, but not as much as I should," Gerry said. "The Betas at Texas knew how to celebrate! Though on a more personal note, the initiation ceremony from pledge to active will always be with me." In addition to his attempts to stay up to date on Chapter activities, Gerry has donated to the Chapter on numerous occasions, including to the fund for a new Chapter House. He also visits campus a few times each year when visiting his son in Austin. Gerry has been happily married for 43 years and has two children and two grandchildren. He spends plenty of time with his wife visiting their daughter and her family in Colorado, and they also enjoy fishing, biking, and bird watching in Rockport, Texas. Gerry golfs as much as he can, plays with his dog, and attends Astros games whenever possible in Houston. You can connect with Gerry at geraldbracht@huntonemeritus.com. Welcome, New Initiates Gerry Bracht '73 Fondly Remembers His Time with Beta Omicron Chapter "I made lasting friendships and prospered while at UT, and I think the fraternity played a part in that."
