T he annual Epsilon Building Corporation meeting, Founders Day ceremony, and Order of the Pearl ceremony was held on Saturday, April 23. Fourteen alumnae and most Epsilon initiates were able to attend. President Kim Jensen Dietrich '87 thanked outgoing board members Connie Cottington Colwill '67 and Bridgett Crayne Chaclan '99 for their service to the board; Connie completed two three-year terms on the board while Bridgett completed her first term. The members elected two new members, Heather Schwatzbaugh Forney '89 and Kendra Mulder '13, to serve a three-year term. Both Heather and Kendra reside in Pierre, South Dakota. Heather is the vice president of Finance and Administration for the SD Board of Regents. Kendra is the managing attorney at Dakota Plains Legal Services. We welcome them to the board and look forward to their insight and knowledge. Order of the Pearl recipient Constance Cameron '62 was able to join us. Constance was delighted to be there since she was unable to attend the Order of the Rose Ceremony in 2012. We did hear from many of the Order of the Rose, Pearl, and Diamond recipients that were unable to attend. One recipient shared this message with us: "Alpha Xi Delta sisterhood does not end at college graduation. Several of us have been in each other's weddings. We still text and support each other. We try to get together for lunch at least once a year. Alpha Xi sisters are the best!" A luncheon was served at the chapter house following the ceremonies. Scholarships were awarded from the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority Scholarship, Alpha Xi Delta Mulligan Scholarship, and Lynda Menke-Barley Alpha Xi Delta Scholarship Funds. Thank you to the alumnae that continue to contribute to these funds at the USD Foundation, especially for the endowments of Dawn Stahl Mulligan '79, and Lynda Menke Barley '66 for endowing scholarship funds for Alpha Xi Delta. Additionally, Cynthia Potter Fejfar-Higgins '69 and Catherine Potter Hayes '71 have established a Coyote Scholarship in memory of their sister Julie Potter '77, to be given to an Alpha Xi Delta. Because of her efforts with nonprofit organizations, the sorority, and her 30-year (and counting) career with Midco in radio and cable television sales, Kim was recognized with the Silver Medal Award from American Advertising Federation-South Dakota in 2022. This award is designed to acknowledge individuals who have made outstanding contributions to advertising. "To receive an award that recognizes contributions just reinforces my desire to continually strengthen work ethic and volunteerism," Kim shared. Kim's journey is a gift that keeps giving. The work she has done and the differences she has made are credited to her ever-growing desire to get involved, and she advises everyone find a similar interest in their community to give back to: "There are several ways to get involved through work and volunteerism. Oftentimes, you may find a mentor that can offer advice and guidance as you enter a new stage of life. These opportunities are invaluable." Kim and her husband, Jim, have been married for 25 years and have two children, Jimmy and Maddie. In her free time, Kim enjoys watching her family explore their interests and sharing special moments together. You can connect with Kim at kim.burma@midco.com.
