T his past school year was one of many firsts for our members, who were eager to experience a college campus in full swing after the heaviest restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our weeks and weekends were filled with sisterhood events and fun as we returned to having in-person events. This past spring, we also hosted a Galentine's Day brunch where sisters enjoyed food, drinks, and games to celebrate. In March, we hosted our philanthropy event, Hoops for Hunger. This 3-on-3 basketball tournament was organized under the direction of Philanthropy Vice President Cortney Sprecher '21. All proceeds went to Feeding South Dakota, our organization of choice to donate funds to through the Kindly Hearts Campaign. In addition to hosting the philanthropy event this semester, our members volunteered their time at Charlie's Cupboard, a student-led food pantry, and collected food donations for the local Vermillion Food Pantry. Outside of our group service hours, many members participated in SERVE, a student service organization that gives back to the Vermillion community. Our spring recruitment was successful, as we brought in four new women for an excellent spring 2022 pledge class. We hosted various spring recruiting events with the guidance of our continuous open bidding director, Kira Roetman '21, and our membership vice president, Lauren Johnson '20. New members were pledged in February and initiated at the beginning of April. Our new sisters are Isabella Maceranka, Esmerelda Pimental Hernandez, Tory Twohig, and Abby Van Roewenkel. All members excelled in academics this spring, earning a chapter GPA of 3.23. We had eight members receive a 4.0 GPA and 18 members on the Dean's List, ranking us third for the all-sorority GPA. Sisters were generously supported in their academics by the member development team and Academic Director Kylee Cramer '21. This summer, we look forward to sending members of the recruitment team to The Workout, a recruitment training conference in Atlanta, Georgia. We also have members attending an online conference, The Founder's Academy, to further their leadership skills and learn about new initiatives of the fraternity.
