T8 WHATS UP! May 29 - June 4, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "The Boys" - Season 3 Gear up for a super showdown like no other when "The Boys" returns to Prime with its third season Friday, June 3. Based on the DC comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, this fun and irrever- ent series looks at what happens when superheroes go rogue and start abusing their power. While society views these heroes with the reverence and popularity as- sociated with the most beloved celebrities and politicians, one vigilante group, known as the Boys, have made it their mission to expose and take down the Seven, a corrupt group of supers working for the multibillion-dol- lar conglomerate Vought. As the series continues with eight more episodes in Season 3, the Boys — made up of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban, "Star Trek," 2009), Moth- er's Milk (Laz Alonso, "Wrath of Man," 2021), Frenchie (Tomer Capone, "One Week and a Day," 2016), The Female (Karen Fuku- hara, "Suicide Squad," 2016) and Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid, "The Hunger Games," 2012) — have been cleared of all charges, but that doesn't mean their jour- ney will be easy. While it is still uncertain where congresswom- an Victoria Neuman's (Claudia Doumit, "Timeless") loyalties lie, the season's teaser trailer hints at Homelander (Antony Starr, "Wish You Were Here," 2012), the psychopathic leader of the Seven, making some truly unhinged moves going forward. Created for television and writ- ten by Eric Kripke ("Supernatu- ral"), Season 3 of "The Boys" is directed by Philip Sgriccia ("Su- pernatural"). Erin Moriarty ("Blood Father," 2016), Domi- nique McElligott ("House of Cards"), Jessie T. Usher ("Shaft," 2019), Chace Crawford ("Gossip Girl"), Nathan Mitchell ("Ginny & Georgia") and Colby Minifie ("Fear the Walking Dead") re- turn to star in the series along- side new additions Jensen Ack- les ("Supernatural"), Laurie Holden ("The Walking Dead"), Nick Wechsler ("Revenge"), Ka- tia Winter ("The Catch," 2020), Sean Patrick Flanery ("The Boondock Saints," 1999), Fran- ces Turner ("The Man in the High Castle") and Miles Gaston Villanueva ("Nancy Drew"). WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Pistol" Follow along with the story of punk music's trailblazers in the new FX limited series "Pistol," available to stream Tuesday, May 31, on Hulu. Based on the memoir "Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol" by Sex Pistols' gui- tarist Steve Jones, the six-epi- sode series follows the band's rise to prominence and notori- ety during the 1970s. As The Sex Pistols, led by Johnny Rotten (Anson Boon, "Crawl," 2019) and Sid Vicious (Louis Par- tridge, "Enola Holmes," 2020), help usher in a punk revolution in Britain, the series tells the emotional and often hilarious journey of the band's chaotic en- trance into music history. Creat- ed by Craig Pearce ("Moulin Rouge!" 2001), "Pistol" is direct- ed by Danny Boyle ("127 Hours," 2010) and written by Pearce and Steve Jones ("Californication"). The series cast is rounded out by Maisie Williams ("Game of Thrones"), Dylan Llewellyn ("Derry Girls"), Emma Appleton ("The Witcher"), Toby Wallace ("Babyteeth," 2019), Sydney Chandler ("Don't Worry Dar- ling," 2022), Iris Law ("I've Been Trying to Tell You," 2021), Jay Simpson ("King Gary"), Beth Dillon ("Four Weddings and a Funeral"), Christian Lees ("Sun Records"), Zachary Goldman ("Saturday Night Inside Out," 2021), Razan Nassar ("Mirage") and Toby Woolf ("Summer of Rockets"). "Fire Island" (2022) Get away with the feel-good LG- BTQ+ romcom "Fire Island," premiering Friday, June 3, on Hulu right in time for Pride month. A modern take on Jane Austen's classic "Pride and Prej- udice," "Fire Island" follows a group of friends as they head to the Fire Island Pines for their an- nual getaway. Focusing on gay best friends Noah (Joel Kim Booster, "Sunnyside") and How- ie (Bowen Yang, "Saturday Night Live"), the story follows the friends as their week of love, fun and cheap rosé is jeopardized by a sudden change of events. As the group's chosen-family bond is put the test, Noah and Howie develop relationships with two wealthy vacationers, Will (Con- rad Ricamora, "How to Get Away With Murder") and Char- lie (James Scully, "You"). Writ- ten by Booster and directed by Andrew Ahn ("Spa Night," 2016), "Fire Island" also stars Margaret Cho ("The Flight At- tendant"), Matt Rogers ("I Love That For You"), Tomas Matos ("Diana," 2021), Torian Miller ("Chicago Med"), Nick Adams ("Still Waiting in the Wings," 2018), Zane Phillips ("Lega- cies"), Michael Graceffa ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"), Peter Smith ("Partner," 2012), Bradley Gibson ("Power Book II: Ghost") and new talent Aidan Wharton. WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Interceptor" (2022) One woman must use every skill in her arsenal to prevent a disas- ter in the new action film "Inter- ceptor," premiering Friday, June 3, on Netflix. The film stars Elsa Pataky ("Snakes on a Plane," 2006) as J.J. Collins, a tough and hardened army captain who is left in charge of a lone Pacific Ocean nuclear missile intercep- tor base upon being forced out of her dream job at the Penta- gon. When a coordinated attack threatens the base at the same time a crooked former intelli- gence officer (Luke Bracey, "Point Break," 2015) plans to carry out an unthinkable plan, Collins must use her years of military expertise and tactical experience to determine whom she can trust and save the inter- ceptor station from disaster. Di- rected by Matthew Reilly ("Blue World Order," 2017) and written by Reilly and Stuart Beattie ("Collateral," 2004), "Intercep- tor" is executive produced by Chris Hemsworth ("Thor," 2011), Christopher Mapp ("To- morrow, When the War Be- gan"), Robert Slaviero ("Great White," 2021), Kathy Morgan ("The Danish Girl," 2015) and Peter D.
