T8 WHATS UP! May 1 - 7, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "The Pentaverate" Risk it all for the truth with the new limited comedy series "The Pentaverate," premiering Thurs- day, May 5, on Netflix. Created by and starring Canadian come- dy legend Mike Myers ("Wayne's World," 1992), this new series is a spinoff of his 1993 black-comedy romance flick "So I Married an Axe Murderer." Willing to risk everything to get his job back, unlikely Canadian journalist Ken Scarborough is on a mission to expose one of the world's oldest secret societ- ies. Formed with the intention of influencing world events for the sake of the greater good at the time of the Black Plague in 1347, the Pentaverate, a secret society made up of five powerful men, is still pulling the strings of society behind the scenes today. As Ken works to uncover the truth about the organization across the se- ries' six half-hour episodes, he might just be on track to save the world himself. Aside from por- traying journalist Ken Scarbor- ough, the chameleonic comedi- an plays seven other characters in the film, including a conspira- cy theorist, a far-right radio host, a former Russian oligarch, an ec- centric tech genius and more. Rounding out the cast alongside Myers are Jennifer Saunders ("French and Saunders"), Keegan-Michael Key ("Keanu," 2016), Jeremy Irons ("Watch- men"), Ken Jeong ("Communi- ty"), Lydia West ("Years and Years"), Gregory Hoyt ("Ram- page," 2018), Daniel Booroff ("Mary Queen of Scots," 2018) and Nicklas Kingo ("Perfect Pair"). The series is directed by Tim Kirkby ("Last Looks," 2021). WHAT'S NEW ON PEACOCK "Girls5Eva" - Season 2 The girls are back! Season 2 of the musical comedy series "Girls5Eva" releases its first three episodes Thursday, May 5, on Peacock, with episodes air- ing weekly on Thursdays there- after. Season 1 saw the former '90s one-hit-wonder girl group Girls5Eva get a second chance at the big time when a young rapper sampled their hit. But with families, jobs and their aching bodies now to worry about, it doesn't feel as easy as it did the first time around. Head- ing into Season 2, the girls — Dawn (Sara Bareilles, "Little Voice"), Summer (Busy Philipps, "Cougar Town"), Wickie (Renée Elise Goldsber- ry, "Hamilton," 2020) and Glo- ria (Paula Pell, "A.P. Bio") — are on the cusp of a major career opportunity after one of their performances blew away audi- ences and a record label. But with Gloria in need of a knee re- placement, they'll need to get creative if they want to hold on to their newest chance at pop stardom. From creator Mere- dith Scardino ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), the series also stars Heidi Gardner ("Life of the Party," 2018), Chad L. Coleman ("The Wire"), Tim Meadows ("Mean Girls," 2004), Judy Gold ("All-American Girl"), Mario Cantone ("Sex and the City"), John Lutz ("Ma- pleworth Murders"), Amber Ruffin ("The Amber Ruffin Show") and "Property Broth- ers'" Jonathan and Drew Scott.
