3 Minnesota Alpha T he members of Minnesota Alpha are looking forward to the rest of 2022. Starting the new year off strongly, chapter members have found new ways to strengthen their bonds with one another. In early January, we continued to grow our lifelong friendships through a group fitness sisterhood and other fun activities. Pi Phi sisters loved reconnecting with one another over winter break, and although we all enjoyed our time at home, everyone came back to campus eager for the spring semester to begin. Over winter break, many of our Pi Phi sisters graduated while some others took on Undergraduate Alumna Status. These changes allowed us the opportunity to participate in Continuous Open Bidding (COB) for the spring semester. We began informal recruitment on January 18, the first day of the semester, with 30 Potential New Members (PNM) eager to participate! Each PNM met with a handful of Pi Phis for different activities, such as grabbing coffee, getting lunch or having a Zoom get-to-know-you session. We concluded the first week of classes by hosting a game night at our chapter home where we shared more about Pi Phi. We enjoyed growing our connections with each other while playing games and eating snacks in the basement. At the end of January, we officially welcomed six New Members with open arms. We are incredibly proud of our recruitment team, and we can't wait to show these New Members our fun Pi Phi traditions! An important moment for Minnesota Alpha occurred at the beginning of the Spring 2022 semester, as we installed a new Executive Council. We are thrilled to announce that we have added the positions of Vice President Inclusion and Director Community Inclusion. Cady Kocanda '20 and Kit Piper-Hauswirth '20 are serving in these roles, respectively. The Inclusion Team hopes to foster meaningful and engaging conversation regarding current events and social justice issues through presentations, discussions and speakers. One main goal the team has for their term in office is to work with the board to create inclusive practices throughout all of Pi Phi. You can go to pibetaphi.org/dei to learn more about the Fraternity's commitment to DEI and see the progress we've made so far as a sisterhood. In the current environment, our chapter's focus for social events is to bring our community together while maintaining a safe, healthy atmosphere for everyone involved. After the past two years, these opportunities for chapter bonding are more important than ever. Director Social Events Diana Hoerner '20 keeps the chapter's perspectives in mind when planning these events in order to increase morale and closeness within our community. Members of our chapter not only place value on the bonds we create with one another, but we also strive for academic excellence. We are honored to announce that Pi Phi received the highest GPA on campus across Fraternity and Sorority Life. With an average fall-term GPA of 3.6, Pi Phi continues to demonstrate its excellence in academics; 77 of our members qualified to be on the Dean's List by holding a GPA above 3.6. Additionally, 13 Pi Phis received a 4.0 cumulative GPA last semester! At the Fraternity and Sorority Awards on February 20, Olivia Anderson '18 received the Legacy Award. This award recognizes senior members who positively represent their chapter and the overall fraternity/sorority community on campus. Olivia is leaving a legacy in our community, as she serves as a role model for behavior, character and involvement. We are incredibly proud of our hardworking, well-rounded and dedicated members!
