As we approach the centennial of our house, alumni leadership will be taking advantage of this important milestone by developing a strategic plan for the next century. DePauw University is embarking upon their own strategic plan, with significant attention on the future of Greek life. Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity, based in Oxford, Ohio, also has a strategic plan entitled "Phi Delt 2030." Over the coming months, we will be retaining a facilitator to guide all interested alumni through a process to determine, "What's next?" Campus life, higher education, and certainly Fraternity life are undergoing many stressors. We want to be prepared for all possible outcomes and be on the leading edge of those developments. Because of the steady and consistent hand of house corporation President Darrell Johnson '85, the Chapter has been able to withstand financial stressors over the past few decades. This includes the most recent COVID 19-lockdowns and campus closure. We are fortunate to enter this next period of reflection and planning from a position of strength. This is not a position that everyone on our campus—now or in the past—can claim. In the past 20 years, AOPi, Tri Delta, Lambda Chi, Delta Chi, Alpha Gamma, and Delta Zeta have all left campus. Sigma Nu left their stately home on Seminary Street only to later relocate to a smaller leased property. Because of hard work, determination, and brotherhood, Phi Delta Theta remains a successful Chapter on campus. Undergraduates and a select few alumni have sacrificed their time, treasures, and talents to see the Chapter through difficult times and celebrate in great ones. WHAT'S NEXT? Please be on the lookout this spring and summer for invitations to participate in our strategic planning process. Phi Delta Theta headquarters and University officials will be engaging with us to provide the resources and background information that we need to make intelligent decisions. It is important to note that your existing alumni leaders want new voices to be heard. So in advance, thank you for participating in this important exercise. We also want to welcome you on June 4 and June 11 for afternoon open houses at the Chapter House during DePauw Extended Alumni Reunion Weekends. Hope to see you then! Yours in the Bond, Chris Johnston '83 cl.johnston83@gmail.com (Continued on page 3) C lint Mitchell '97 was fortunate enough to get to know many Indiana Zeta brothers through baseball prior to recruitment, which helped him see the true colors of Phi Delta Theta early on. "My first full introduction to the Fraternity was during my night accepting a bid," Clint said. "I met the guys who would be friends for the rest of my life. I have vivid memories of conversations and images from that night." Indiana Zeta was an important part of what made Clint's DePauw experience so great. He was able to develop true bonds and learn from his brothers. Some of his closest friendships today were developed during his days at Phi Delt. "Phi Delt is made up of a diverse group of men who are active in campus leadership, in athletics, and socially, and who are at the top academically—all things that I cared about," Clint said. An additional impact on not just Clint, but also many other brothers was the mentorship of Chapter Adviser Steve Jones '69 and Mom Ensor. Both helped so many men through their DePauw years. Just a few years ago, Cint was able to reconnect with many brothers for Steve's 70th birthday celebration.
