Cease the Grease.
Keep Wipes
outta' Pipes.
Grease, fat and oil – as well as wipes and other items – can
block our sewer lines and cause wastewater to back up and
overflow. This can harm our water quality and the environment. And
wastewater back-up may even cause damage to your property that necessitates
costly repairs.
Warnings for Wipes
Hand or baby wipes – even if they're labeled "flushable" – should
NOT be flushed! They don't break down in our sewer pipes and can
also cause blockages that lead to wastewater back-ups. Other items
that should never be flushed include:
• Paper towels
• Diapers
• Feminine hygiene products
• Dental floss
• Q-tips
• Kitty litter
• Medical waste
• Hard objects
in general
Guidelines for Grease
Please, don't pour grease and oil down the drain!
• Let it cool down, pour it into a disposable container and
put it in the trash. Empty plastic food containers work well –
or, PWC offers free Fat Trappers (covered cooking grease
collection containers).
• Use a paper towel to wipe grease from pans before you
wash them.
• Never put meat scraps down the drain and compost your
vegetable scraps or put them in the trash.
