In the category of NBA MVP candidates for 2021-22, we
present for your consideration DeMar DeRozan.
Indeed, the veteran shooting guard is having one of the best
statistical seasons of his 13-year pro career in his first season
with the Chicago Bulls, who through the season's first three
months he has helped lead to the best record in the Eastern
Conference.
As of early February, the 32-year-old native of Compton,
Calif., was sixth in the league in scoring with 26.4 points per
game, to go with per-game averages of five assists and five
rebounds and a blistering 50.2 percent field goal percentage.
Furthermore, he's become the go-to guy and a vocal leader
on a team that figures to go far in the postseason. People
like his former coach in his three
seasons with the San Antonio
Spurs, Gregg Popovich, have sat up
and taken notice.
"He's got great character, and he
wanted to get better," Popovich said
of his former shooting guard. "And
he did."
Sunday, Feb. 20, he'll make his
fifth appearance and third as a
starter alongside Joel Embiid, Kevin
Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo
and Trae Young as his Eastern
Conference squad meets the West
in the 2022 NBA All-Star Game,
airing on TNT from Rocket
Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.
