oxepsilon.org e Epsilon Building Association (EBA) recently made a major upgrade to the house when they funded a complete re-siding. e house was stripped of its old brown wooden siding and replaced with a blend of new mahogany boards with gray composite material; additionally, some of the new composite siding on the first floor was painted red. A color photo showing off the renovation is available on our Chapter website at www.oxepsilon.org. e entire project cost $250,000 and took about eight months to complete after beginning in the early spring of 2021. To complement the new siding, the house will also receive a replacement set of signature Greek letters to mount proudly on the building. e older heavy wooden letters were beginning to show their age, having served a worthy purpose for a number of years. A decision was made to purchase a more sustainable set of aluminum letters. e new letters will also have lights on the underside, so guests can see the bright beacon of the letters of eta Chi even at night. We are expecting the letters to be installed soon, so keep an eye out for updates. Also, the active members would like to give a huge thank-you to the EBA and the alumni who helped fund this purchase! ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT EBA and Alumni Help Theta Chi Renovate Exterior of Chapter House PASSING OF SAM GODIN '89 We Invite You to Share Your Stories in Remembrance It is with great sadness that I report that Sam Godin '89 has entered Chapter Eternal, passing away earlier this year in his sleep. A memorial service was held to remember Sam shortly after. Many eta Chis attended the service, extending the line well beyond the door. Also attending were two undergraduates, Nathan Kumar '22 and Ardavasd Ardhaldjian '22, who delivered fresh carnations to honor the life of our fallen Brother who was taken far too soon. I last spoke to Sam at a golf tournament last August; he was funny, as always, and an overall joy to be around. I will miss you, Sammy, and I will always remember the times we shared at eta Chi and beyond. May you rest in peace! If you have any memories of Sam that you would like to share, please send them to me at jmm2562@gmail.com for a proper remembrance in the next edition of Epsilon Echo. From left: Chris Rett '90, the late Sam Godin '89, Mike Periello '89, and Don Gallucci '89. anks to all who came out for the 2021 EBA Open at Leicester Country Club! We had 58 golfers from the early 1980s to active members. After a little pre-golf nourishment of Coney Island hot dogs and beer, the crew hit the links for a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Weather conditions were perfect, and the course proved a bit more challenging than in past years based on team scores. We had skill prizes on the par 3s and a long drive on hole 13. is year, all prizes were paid in cash. Closest to the pin winners: • Hole 3 – Bill Spratt '97 by 23' 4" • Hole 7 – Marshal Watts '22 by 9' 4" • Hole 9 – Scott Favreau '86 by 13' 4" • Hole 12 – Norm Harris '15 by 12' 7" • Hole 17 – Mark Bentson '16 by 18' 10" Longest Drive: Mark Bentson '16 We played a straight scramble with no handicapping. e match was a close one, with the winning team earning a score of 6 under par; congrats to Kyle Scaplen '19, Liam Finnegan '20, Sam Pridotkas '19, and Chris Xavier '17! We had a great meal after the event, including a chance to catch up with everyone. We also had a raffle of past EBA tournament merchandise, and Leicester Country Club graciously donated a golf foursome with carts. Congratulations to all winners! We ran a small surplus this year of $230. e surplus was donated to the G.R.A.C E. Center in honor of Grace Rett, daughter of Brother Chris Rett '90 of the Godfathers, who was tragically killed in a car accident when she was training with the Holy Cross crew team. Grace was a multisport athlete and holder of a world record for continuous indoor rowing (for 62 hours and three minutes!) in December 2019. Funds are being used to build a sports complex named after Grace. We are happy to report that the facility is under construction with a targeted opening later this year. Please visit their webpage, www. ourladyofthevalleyregional.com/the-g-r-a-c-e- center, and I encourage you all to make a personal donation if you are able. e crew at Leicester Country Club was great to work with, and we look forward to coming back in 2022. Save the date, as we have booked the 2022 EBA Open for August 13, 2022.
