SCHROEDER John Schroeder, 72, of Rapid City, SD and Quartzsite, AZ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. John Schroeder was born in Pipe- stone, MN on August 30, 1949 to Harold and Lorraine (Kiecksee) Schroeder. He was baptized, raised and confi rmed at Immanuel Lu- theran Church in Ward, SD. John graduated High School in Flandreau, SD in 1967 and contin- ued his higher education in Des Moines, Iowa in Computer Pro- gramming Studies. John joined the United States Air Force and was de- ployed to Vietnam in October 1971 as a computer intelligence offi cer. On April 29, 1994, he married Ce- lia Wait in Las Vegas, NV. While John lived in Mitchell, he man- aged Crown Family Restaurant and sold insurance for Reginald Martin In- surance Company. In 1995 he became self-employed, vending as Solitude Miles in Quartzsite, AZ in the winters and Sturgis, SD in the summers. In the winter in Quartzsite, John loved decorating his property for Christmas which brought hundreds of people to visit year after year. In the summer, his hard work and passion would bring him to work at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. John enjoyed all types of sports. He es- pecially enjoyed watching his only grandchild, Garret, play football, baseball, basketball and tennis. John is survived by his wife, Celia. Funeral services were held Tues- day, November 9, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial was at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Cost is free to DARC members or $20 donation to Club. The next class is scheduled for January 14th, 2022. Pre-registration is required with Cass 520-909-2706 or email deserthams@gmail.com. The Desert Amateur Radio Club- DARC has grown to 50 members (with the last meeting). With the anticipation of out growing the club house a vote was taken and passed to move the meeting locations to the QIA starting with the next meeting of Dec 11th. You will have the opportunity to sign up for the QIA at the meeting as it was voted for to enjoy the large meeting room and parking area for the Club. DARC meetings: Jan 15, Feb 18, at 10am at the QIA. You sign up when you go for coffee or offi ce is open most days for a QIA membership of $10 (cov- ers the season and gives discounts to events held at the QIA) and you can get your $5 monthly coffee card for all you can drink. Come on by any day during the week around 9am and enjoy hang out with hams and good coffee.
