The ohio state university page 3 Guiding Others Bill McCloy '82 Shares His Experience as a Member of the House Corporation P ersonal and professional growth comes from experiencing failure and success, and as a member of the House Corporation, Bill McCloy '82 hopes to guide members of Beta Phi through these parts of life. "As alumni, we always remind ourselves that we are providing support and direction to 17-22 year olds," Bill said. "Often, we want to 'tell' the undergraduates what they should do, though we recognize that learning is an important part of collegiate life." Bill enjoys seeing Beta Phi flourish and continue to lead the OSU Greek system. He would like to see the chapter increase its membership diversity and strive for academic excellence. Other specific goals that he would like to see include a full house, full membership, top academics, and strong leadership. "I would also like to encourage all of my brothers to give back to the causes that are important to them." Bill looks back on his time at the Shelter with fondness. The chapter helped him succeed in his collegiate years and beyond. "My experience with Beta Phi prepared me for the real world. Through my association with Beta Phi, I worked for the president of the Ohio Senate and co-founded a campus magazine." Bill's Delt experience also brought him lifelong friends and associates. He has many memories from his collegiate years, including recruitment, becoming pledge master, being a big brother and vice president of the Shelter, and competing in fraternity sports. Bill took what he learned from Ohio State and Delta Tau Delta and brought it with him in his career. He had a fulfilling career as managing partner of McCloy Holdings, his real estate vehicle. He has many proud moments in his career, including building two businesses with a team of dedicated managers. "As in a college fraternity setting, putting together a team to win is a great experience." Bill retired in 2018. Family is the most precious part of Bill's life. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Jenny, and four children: Annie, Sam, Olivia, and Mac. Sam has Down syndrome and has been an inspiration to the family to provide support through organizations dedicated to people with special needs. Their children have also developed empathy and compassion for those less fortunate. The family is in the beginnings of building a community in Cincinnati that provides housing and support for people with disabilities. In his free time, Bill enjoys golfing, boating, business investing, and vacationing or skiing with his children. You can connect with him at wam@mccloyholdings.com.
