T8 WHATS UP! November 21 - 27, 2021 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "Hawkeye" Don't miss the latest dive into another super-story when "Hawkeye" debuts Wednesday, Nov. 24, on Disney+. Taking place after the events of "Aveng- ers: End Game" (2019), "Hawk- eye" is the fifth new television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Based on the Marvel source comics, the series stars Jeremy Renner ("The Hurt Locker," 2008) reprising his role as Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, an expert archer and marksman who doesn't technically have any superhuman powers, but who has turned his body into a versatile, deadly weapon. While Barton may have retired as Hawkeye and the worst villain of all may be gone, the Avengers are still fighting crime, this time with a younger group of heroes. Young archer Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld, "True Grit," 2010) has taken on the role of Hawkeye with the Avengers, and the two are soon forced to work together to take down ene- mies from Barton's past. The se- ries explores more of Barton's time as his alter ego, Ronin (as seen in "Endgame"), while the unlikely duo take on their ene- mies, hoping to make it home in time for Christmas. Created by Jonathan Igla ("Mad Men"), the series is directed by Rhys Thomas ("Saturday Night Live") and duo Bert and Bertie ("Troop Zero," 2019). "Hawk- eye" also stars Florence Pugh ("Little Women," 2019), Vera Farmiga ("The Many Saints of Newark," 2021), Zahn McClar- non ("Longmire"), Brian d'Arcy James ("Spotlight," 2015) and Tony Dalton ("Better Call Saul"). "The Beatles: Get Back" "Get back" into The Beatles ex- perience with the new three- part documentary series "The Beatles: Get Back," premiering Part 1 on Thursday, Nov. 25, on Disney+. Originally set up to be a feature-length documentary film, the project grew to accom- modate all the usable footage and tell The Beatles' story the way it was meant to be told. With each part coming in at around two hours in length, fans of the Fab Four can indulge in an exciting deep dive into the band. The film footage was originally captured for Michael Lindsay- Hogg's ("Tinsel's Town") 1970 documentary of the same name, and the miniseries follows John, Paul, George and Ringo during the making of their 1970 album "Let It Be." Although it covers tougher subjects that the origi- nal documentary skipped over — George Harrison's brief de- parture from the band, for exam- ple — the series challenges old assumptions about the band's at- titudes towards each other and shows a more upbeat produc- tion process. Getting an intimate look at the creative development of their hit songs, the creation of the "Let It Be" album and every- thing in between, "Get Back" is a production every fan of the su- pergroup will want to see. Di- rected and produced by Peter Jackson ("The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," 2001), the series is also produced by band members Paul McCart- ney and Ringo Starr, George Harrison's widow, Olivia Harri- son ("George Harrison: Living in the Material world," 2011), and John Lennon's widow, artist Yoko Ono ("Imagine," 1972). Part 2 releases the following day, on Friday, Nov. 26, and Part 3 on Sat- urday, Nov. 27. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Holly Hobbie" - Season 3 Big dreams come true in a small town with the Season 3 release of "Holly Hobbie," available on Hulu starting Tuesday, Nov. 23. Holly Hobbie (Ruby Jay, "The Unicorn") has lived her whole life in the small town of Collins - ville. A big fish in a small pond, the 13-year-old singer/songwrit- er is constantly coming up with big new ideas to help out those around her. The series began with Holly and friends putting on an open-mic night to raise enough money to save her grandmother's (Sara Botsford, "Anne of Green Gables," 2016) café. Moving into Season 3, Holly is starting up her social media career and hoping to raise mon - ey to help pay for her dad's (Evan Buliung, "The Wolf and the Lion," 2021) medical bills after he is hurt in an accident. Developed for television by Sarah Glinski ("Degrassi: The Next Genera - tion"), the series is based on the writer and doll of the same name and is directed by Stefan Brogren ("Degrassi Goes Hollywood," 2009). Tomaso Sanelli ("Shad - owhunters"), Saara Chaudry ("The Mysterious Benedict Soci- ety"), Kamaia Fairburn ("Endlings"), Charles Vander- vaart ("The Craft: Legacy," 2020), Kate Moyer ("The Hand- maid's Tale") and Hunter Dillon ("To All the Boys I've Loved Be- fore," 2018) also star in the series. WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Bruised" (2020) Witness a fight for redemption with the release of the new film "Bruised," available to stream on Netflix as of Wednesday, Nov. 24. Halle Berry ("Catwoman," 2004) directs and stars in the film as Jackie Justice, a once-cel- ebrated MMA fighter who walked away from her promis- ing career years earlier. Now back in the ring and fighting for a shot at redemption, her life changes once more when the son (Danny Boyd Jr., "Watch- men") she gave up as an infant suddenly reenters her life. Faced with difficult choices and forced to confront demons from her past, Jackie must find the cour- age to fight for the two most im- portant things in her life: her son and an MMA title. Written by Michelle Rosenfarb ("Sweet Surrender," 2011), this sports drama also stars Stephen McKinley Henderson ("Fences," 2016), Shamier Anderson ("Inva- sion"), Lela Loren ("Power"), Nikolai Nikolaeff ("Daredevil"), Sheila Atim ("The Underground Railroad") and Adan Canto ("Designated Survivor"). "True Story" The new limited miniseries "True Story" makes its stream- ing debut on Netflix on Wednes- day, Nov. 24. Kevin Hart ("Ride Along," 2014) executive produc- es and stars in the series as Kid, a famous comedian traveling across the country on tour. When a tour stop in his home- town of Philadelphia means a night spent with his wayward older brother, Carlton (Wesley Snipes, "Blade," 1998), what was supposed to be an easy trip through town turns into a life- or-death situation for Kid. The seven-episode series is written by Eric Newman ("Narcos") and directed by Stephen Williams ("Lost") and Hanelle M. Cul- pepper ("Star Trek: Picard"). Theo Rossi ("Army of the Dead," 2021), Abbey Paige ("Oh Baby Yes," 2019), William Catlett ("Black Lightning"), Michael James Bell ("For All Mankind") and Avery Kidd Waddell ("Questions," 2019) also star in the series. Raised in the remote wilderness by her father, Hanna continues on her seemingly tire- less journey to ruin the organiza- tions that have taken advantage of her for so long. Trained as an assassin by an evil organization called Utrax, Hanna is now on a mission to destroy the very or- ganization that created her — from the inside out. Created and written by David Farr ("Troy: Fall of a City"), who also wrote the original film, this season is directed by Sacha Polak ("Dirty God," 2019) and Weronika Tofil- ska ("The Patient," 2014).
