Phi Gamma Delta University of Kansas P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested www.kufiji.org Connect with KU FIJI Online O n Friday, October 15 th , Pi Deuteron hosted its 140th Pig Dinner reunion. Many brothers from far and wide joined us to rejoice in the glory of our Chapter and envision its future. The dinner started with the ceremonial "Kissing of the Pig," in which Phillip Miller '22 kissed the rear end and Rich Barr '59 the head. Our current President, Will Draper '23, then addressed a few key topics of current news within the Chapter. Our newest pledge class has a 3.45 GPA (at the time of writing), which is the highest among recent years. Congratulations, gentleman; let's keep up the hard work! Brother Draper also presented the most recent gift of Pi Deuteron memorabilia: the cup of John Dice MacLaren, M.D. 1886. It is a roughly 114-year- old cup with FIJI-relevant symbols located in our trophy case; we hope you can all stop by and view it at some point. We would also like to honor John Bumgarner '64, the genius behind the house's recent remodel, including the fourth floor, patio, exceptional first floor, and recent addition of the heated pergola to the patio, for all his generation contributions. Also, a huge thank-you to John Martin '59 for the development of John Bumgarner's portrait. Following this, the classes of 1974 and 1975 (Gold Owls) and the classes of 1999 and 2000 (Silver Owls) were recognized. It is a pleasure to be a part of an organization that represents so much more than just individuals. To add to this sentiment, Dean Newton '92, our keynote speaker, had a few quotes that expressed the incredible feelings, relationships, and presence our home has on all its inhabitants. "I felt anchored by the friendships and the relationships that I found in the Fraternity when others around me were experiencing uncertainty." He later stated, "You will be faced with opportunities, challenges, and choices where you will fail. Everyone fails, and if you understand that failure is a part of life, then you will succeed after you go for it every single time." In other words, "Press on, Brothers!"
