Did last month's social media shutdown
make you sweat?
You're far from alone.
Last month, the world woke up to a difficult
reality…
Many business owners' contact lists and
connections with their audience are in the
hands of unreliable social media platforms.
Sound familiar?
For the roughly 6 hours that Facebook and
all their affiliated platforms were out across
the globe, no one – not even their own
security engineers – were able to access the
social media site or its servers.
They were locked out both virtually and
physically (so much for smart keys) from finding
a solution.
And that was just Monday!
You may have missed the shorter shutdown
that took place Friday, but for two hours the
tech giant's global user base was once again
out of luck.
If you were sweating the potential loss of
your social media presence, here are 3
ways you can future proof your business
with relationship building:
1. Actively grow and nurture your email list
with value-driven content.
While the lifespan of a social media post
ranges from a few hours to a few days and
only reaches approximately 5-10% of your
audience, the ability to search in an inbox
extends the life of an email dramatically. Not
to mention that emails have an average open
rate of 20%!
The key to creating a well-nurtured list (and
cracking readership way beyond that 20%
average) is you have to give your audience a
reason to sign up and stay on – that means
knowing what your audience values most
and delivering on that consistently.
2. Pick up the phone to call or text (and
know your client's preference).
