Quartzsite is planning a yearlong party to celebrate Arizona 100th Birthday! The fun begins on the weekend of Feb. 12, 2011 and continues through February 14, 2012. The next meeting is on Thursday, Aug. 5th - 4pm at the Senior Center. Arizona and Oregon are the only two states that became a state on Valentine’s Day, the Day of the Heart! The following is from the official Arizona Centennial Re- source Guide: “As we approach the Centennial, some Country Bash Saturday, October 2nd Town Park Featuring the Harry Luge Band (Quartzsite Activity Center) Help foster positive community spirit! A Fun, Family Event and Fundraiser for QAC Tickets $10 at the door $15 Tickets go on sale in Sept. Watch for details! Food, Fun, Dancing, Live Music, and More! Sponsors needed! Help support this community event! Donations accepted at Horizon Community Bank under “Quartzsite Country Bash” or you can visit the website at www.QuartzsiteCountryBash.com www.QuartzsiteCountryBash.com say, “How can you celebrate a Centen- nial during economic crisis, amid budget cuts and fiscal uncertainty?” Some have shrugged off the Centennial saying, “Who cares?”, “What is so important?”, or “We have more important things to focus on.” To those people, we say this time of budget crisis and economic uncertainty is the time to celebrate what is certain—the strength, pride and diversity of the people of Ari- zona! “To those who may not think that the Centennial is a priority, we respectfully disagree. It is precisely in times of struggle that bringing people together to support a common cause can be most meaningful. We need a point of pride to rally around and bring us together, and the Centennial gives us that opportunity. “It seems commonplace to talk about what is wrong today, but for the Arizona Centennial, we challenge you to honor what is right today. It is us — individuals, organizations and communities working together—that make this state such a won- derful place to live. It is us …who weave together the fabric that is the mighty spirit of Arizona.” Please join us on Thursday, Aug. 5th at 4pm at the Senior Center, 40 Moon Mt., in Quartzsite. For more information contact Shanana “Rain” Golden-Bear, Chairper- son, 541-218-2560. 4, 2010 BLOOD DRIVE THURSDAY, AUG. 5 United Blood Services is urging all eligible donors to donate blood at the GFWC Quartzsite Community blood drive at the Senior Center on Thursday, August 5th, from noon to 6:00pm. For appointment, contact Jeannia at 928- 927-5800. The summer months are historically the most difficult times to get blood donations. This summer, has already proven to be a time when there are less donors and a much higher demand for blood and we are very close to experi- encing a shortage of blood for our local hospitals for the remaining summer months. Helpful Hints for Donors: • Drink 6-8 bottles of water the night before our blood donation appointment for hydration and it helps increase the blood flow and raises the veins to make for an easier blood draw • Eat a hearty breakfast the morning of the blood drive, especially something that has high iron content • Avoid caffeine products (soda, power drinks, coffee, chocolate, tea and avoid calcium products (milk, calcium sup- plements, Tums, etc.) the morning of the blood drive. Calcium and caffeine absorb the iron in your body and may result in a deferral. For more information on donor eligi- bility, call (702) 638-7400 gearing up for the 2nd Annual Rockin’ in Quartzsite! Interested artists and volunteers are invited to attend the next meeting on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 4pm at the Senior Center. We had over 40 volunteers give of themselves and their time to help cel- ebrate Quartzsite as the Rock Capital of the World. In October, PNQ hosts a thank you dinner for the volunteers and sponsors. Watch for more infor- mation. Our Volunteer Equity Program gives back to the volunteers’ organizations. Hours in, points given. For more in- formation, contact S. Rain Golden- Bear, 541-218-2560.
