BUILDING ON A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE Standard Bearer The Fall 2021 Eta Chapter of Sigma Chi at the University of Mississippi T he active brothers at Sigma Chi are beyond thrilled to be living in the best house at the University of Mississippi. The new renovations and expansions of the Eta chapter house have exceeded everyone's expectations. We have had such a successful year and are excited to be in the home stretch of our Building on a Tradition of Excellence capital campaign. Currently, we have a certificate of occupancy for the south part of the building, which includes all living and dining spaces. We were also able to open the house for meals, allowing us to hold a successful recruitment. To date, our chapter house includes an additional 500 square feet of dining space as well as new paint throughout, flooring in the upper living room, and furniture in the dining room, lower living room, upper living room, and foyer. With phase two of construction almost complete, we are excited to soon offer 22 new dorm rooms, an additional six study rooms, new bathroom facilities on both floors, a weekend kitchen, a TV lounge, laundry facilities, and a brand new, 200-seat chapter room with an executive conference room. We will wrap up construction in early November. Brothers, as our campaign nears its end, we need to make one last push to raise additional funds to help place our active brothers in the house even sooner. You can give to the campaign today at tinyurl.com/MississippiSigmaChi or by using the enclosed pledge form. With a pledge of $2,500 or more, you will have your name etched on a donor wall that will be prominently featured in the house. We are grateful for your support of Eta Chapter and hope you come by the new and improved chapter house! As a freshman, he served as pledge class president and was on UM's Associated Student Body First Year Experience Freshman Council. This past summer, he attended the Krach Transformational Leadership Workshop at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, with former Consul Mosie Kirby '22 and one of the chapter's social chairmen. "I learned more about leading with vulnerability and remaining steadfast in the core values of Sigma Chi alongside members from across the country." Porter added, "This year, I plan to work alongside a fellow active as ritual chairman, which will bring a deeper appreciation for the roots of our fraternity. I will also work as an assistant magister, helping me grow upon my leadership and steadfast effort Positive Changes Bring Promising Pledges Porter May '24 Is Shining Example of Eta Chapter Collegian (Continued on page 3)
