Join us on Thursday, Oc- tober 28 at 2pm at the Quartzsite Senior Center (40 S. Moon Moun- tain) and discover what Ameri- Corps Seniors are doing in La Paz County, and how you can help. AmeriCorps Seniors is a National Service Organization of adults, age 55+, that want to make a differ- ence in their communities. From helping seniors stay safe in their home, to tutoring kids in school, to keeping the food bank open, AmeriCorps Seniors can help you fi nd the perfect way for you to give back. You can serve as much, or as little as you'd like. Part-time and full-time residents are invited to attend. Prizes will be given away! The fun starts at 5pm and runs til 9pm. Free hot dogs, chips and water will be provided for the kids. (It's only $3 for adults!) There will be Trunk or Treat set up across from the Community Center. Folks can set up starting at 4pm. The Haunted House will be held inside the Community Center. The Cake Walk and Games will be held in the west parking lot. Get your costumes ready for the Costume Contest at 5:30pm. Prizes will be awarded for the Scariest, Most Original and Funniest. There AmeriCorps Meeting La Paz County Sgt. Mike Rudd remembered La Paz County Sgt. Mike Rudd remembered La Paz County Sgt. Mike Rudd Wednesday, October 13th the La Paz County Sheriff's Offi ce escort- ed Sergeant Michael Rudd back to La Paz County from the Riverside County Coroner's Offi ce in Indio California. The procession went through Quartzsite where they were greeted by many paying their respects, and then traveled back home to Parker, AZ. Sergeant Michael Rudd was struck and killed by a commercial vehicle during the pursuit of a fraud sus- pect on I-10 at about 1:00 am. The suspect was being pursued by members of the Quartzite Police Department and the Arizona De- partment of Public Safety. Sergeant Rudd had exited his vehicle on I-10, near mile marker 37, when he was struck by a commercial vehicle that was not involved in the pursuit. The driver of the suspect was tak- en into custody a short time later after his vehicle was immobilized by spike strips. Sergeant Rudd was a United States Air Force and Army veteran. He had served with the La Paz County Sheriff's Offi ce for eight years. Sergeant Rudd is survived by his wife and six children. Funds raised from the Cincinatti Chili Meal will be do- nated to Amanda Rudd family and the children. The fundraiser will be held at the Quartzsite Community Center, 295 E. Chandler. The meal is $10 minimum donation. Tickets can be purchased online through Quartzsite Chamber & Tourism Facebook page or at the Quartzsite Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism. Donations will also be ac- cepted at Horizon Community Bank during regular business hours and dropped off at the Chamber.
