House Director's Report The fall semester is underway! Chapter officers are hard at work preparing activities that incorporate professional and personal development, brotherhood, service, and career success — in other words, activities that fulfill our mission to build better men. Classes began September 6, and the first weeks of the semester are always packed with recruitment activities for young men and their families to learn more about AGR. Last spring, we hosted our first AGR Alumni Networking Event. Ten alumni discussed their careers, AGR experiences, potential jobs/internships in their industry, and gave advice to our collegiate members. The evening is great preparation for the career fair the following week. This fall on September 23, we have space for 24 alumni representing various industries and careers. If you are interested in joining, please call chapter advisor Royce Duhrman #1704 at 651-492-2201. CFANS will host a virtual Career and Internship Fair on September 29. I will work hard to help our men prepare with updated resumes, appropriate dress, and networking advice. Our annual Fall Festival philanthropy event will be October 7. It's a great opportunity to share food and fun with our friends and neighbors while also raising money for a good cause. Our inaugural AGR Alumni Networking event The Etiquette Dinner is always a hit! On November 9, our chef will prepare a fine meal and the young men will learn and practice the points of etiquette needed for interviews, professional meals, and social events. We'll celebrate the holidays on December 13 with our third annual Tie One On event. I'll place 40 wrapped neckties in a pile in the Chapter Room, and brothers can choose one from the pile or 'steal' one from a brother's neck. The evening is full of holiday treats, great laughs, and learning about proper business dress and how to choose and wear an appropriate suit, shirt, and tie. Last year's Tie One On event We invite you to join us! The guys absolutely love having alumni stop by the house to participate in activities and share their experiences. Ms. Teri Gustafson, House Director protocolschoolmn@msn.com Celebrating an Honorary Brother John Schwartz was initiated as an honorary member of Lambda on October 26, 2020. He attended the U of M during the winter of 1977. He pledged AGR and lived in the chapter house. At the end of the quarter, however, John left campus to pursue his passion of farming. He was never initiated, but for decades, maintained close relationships with many men he'd met at the university. John built a crop farming operation with his brother, Joe. In 1981, they entered the pork industry. Schwartz Farms has grown into one of the country's premier pork producers. Today, John serves as president and CEO of an organization that spans four states and employs 400+ people. He continues to be a tremendous advocate for agriculture, and we're very proud to recognize his accomplishments as an honorary brother. He and his wife, Rosie, live on a farm near Sleepy Eye. John's uncle is Lambda brother T. Hilary Mohr #661.
