DC's Monuments, Memorials & Hidden Gems Journey Round Our Nation's Historic Capital You'll see so much on this fascinating and in-depth exploration of Washington, DC and the neighboring historic areas! Visit the landmark areas, monuments and museums of our nation's capital. Relive the days of our country's founding from George Washington's Mt. Vernon home to being able to pay your respects at Arlington National Cemetery. This tour even ventures into the area's most interesting neighborhoods, including Georgetown, Cathedral Heights and more. Join us for a one-of-a-kind exploration of DC! DAY 1—WELCOME TO WASHINGTON, DC Welcome to Washington, D.C. — our Nation's Capital! The adventure begins with a private dessert reception where we will get to know our fellow travelers and Discovery Director. DAY 2—MEMORIALS TOUR/SMITHSONIAN MUSEUMS The morning begins with a guided tour of some of Washington's most iconic landmarks — including the Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln Memorials. Included is a stop at the World War II Memorial, which honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces, and all who supported the war effort from home. You will then have the entire afternoon to explore any of the Smithsonian Museums located along the National Mall at your leisure — perhaps the Museum of American History, Air and Space Museum, or the new African American Museum is calling your name today. "Unpack and stay" for the next four nights at the Embassy Row Hotel. This award-winning boutique hotel is tucked away in D.C.'s DuPont Circle Neighborhood, with plenty of sites and restaurants with-in walking distance. B, D DAY 3—ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY/ MOUNT VERNON We'll head across the Potomac River this morning to view some of the most revered grave sites in America at Arlington National Cemetery. Your guided tour includes multiple hop-off stops, including the Eternal Flame for President John F. Kennedy, and a chance to see the humble Changing of the Guard. Spend the entire afternoon at historic Mount Vernon, the Virginia plantation of George Washington, and his wife, Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. See the beautifully restored rooms inside the mansion, walk amongst the gardens of the estate situated on a hill overlooking the Potomac River, and pay homage to the first President of the United States at his humble tomb. The site will come to life at lunch as you exclusively dine with a costumed interpreter from the Revolutionary period. Also included is a boat cruise on the Potomac River for the April departure or a special garden walking tour of Mount Vernon for the September departure.
