DAY 4—LINCOLN'S COTTAGE/HOLOCAUST MUSEUM/MONUMENTS AT NIGHT Did you know Abraham Lincoln moved out of the White House during the summer to a quieter location on the outskirts of the city? We'll take you on a guided tour of "President Lincoln's Cottage", one of the original "Summer White Houses" — a 34-room Greek Revival structure — and a true 'off the beaten path' attraction that many who visit DC don't ever get to experience. You can even touch the same hand railings as our 16th President. Returning to the city center, relax during lunch in the city's Columbia Heights Neighborhood. Then, spend the afternoon at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This living memorial to the Holocaust inspires visitors to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity. After dinner on your own, we re-group for a guided tour to see more of DC's monuments at night — it will give us a whole new perspective. B, L DAY 5—WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL/MORE SMITHSONIAN MUSEUMS This morning, visit the beautiful architecture and grounds of the Washington National Cathedral. A docent-led tour highlights the inspiring stained-glass windows, Gothic spires, and flying buttresses of this national treasure. Because part of just one day isn't enough to take in all that interests travelers at the Smithsonian, we return to the National Mall for an afternoon of self-exploration at your museum of choice. Don't forget to take in the Renick Galley, the historic Smithsonian Institution Building (built in 1849!), or perhaps the National Museum of Natural History. Dinner will be at the iconic Filomena's Restaurant in historic Georgetown... recommended by one of our travelers for their windows where you can watch the chef make fresh pasta! B, D DAY 6—U.S. CAPITOL TOUR/FAREWELL LUNCHEON Our final morning in Washington begins with a guided tour of the U.S. Capitol and its stunning rotunda. Be impressed with the statues and marble columns as you walk down the same hallowed halls that our country's lawmakers have since 1800. A special "farewell" lunch at the historic Gadsby's Tavern in Alexandria wraps up our time together. Head home — with visions of our Nation's Capital fresh in our minds and hearts.
