WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM AUGUST 25-31, 2021 UCW 19 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Inexplicable Metro News reported on Aug. 15 that authorities in the village of Wonersh in Surrey, England, are stumped by a serial baked bean bandit who is pouring the savory legumes on doorsteps, cars and into mail slots. Officers have promised to step up patrols in the area, but residents are seeing the lighter side: "What half-baked idiots would do this? I hope they get thrown in the can!" and "Absolutely Heinzous crime." Bright Idea New York City subway motorman Terrell Harris is in trouble with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority after letting his girlfriend take a train for a joyride on Aug. 13. According to NBC New York, the couple posted photos to social media showing them in the cab, with her operating the controls through several stops. Interim NYC Transit President Craig Cipriano called the incident an "egregious violation of public trust. Something that I haven't seen in my 32 years here." Harris has been "taken out of service." Awesome! In July, customers at Tesco supermarkets in England were greeted with motivational posters encouraging camaraderie during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Daily Record reported. However, some patrons were amused by the placement of the messages — especially one reading "Together we can do this" found in a urinal stall in the men's restroom. Users posted the sign online prompting replies, such as, "Nah I got this one all by myself thanks Tesco" and "Ok, but only three shakes please." Full Service Brandon D'Marcus Presha, 28, was arrested in Laurens, South Carolina for an incident that took place in the McDonald's where he works, The Smoking Gun reported. Late that evening, police said, Presha donned gloves and sat down at a table in the restaurant to ink a tattoo on the arm of a minor — and bystanders posted video of him plying his craft. Presha was charged with tattooing a minor and tattooing without a license. Question: : Why are they cancel- ing "e Good Witch" on Hallmark Channel. It is a good show I have watched from the beginning. I read that it went down in who's watching it, but I can't understand why that would mean canceling. So many rotten TV shows stay on season after season, but this is a good one and so they end it! — Kim L Matt Roush: I'm hearing quite a bit about this now that the deed is done. e real surprise here is not that Hallmark canceled a show after seven seasons — and if you count the TV movies dating back even lon- ger, something like a 13-year run. What's most aggravating about this decision is it seemed to have been made so late in the game, without giving the show or the "Good Witch" fans a chance to take advantage of a victory lap or final-season public- ity. Declining ratings were likely a contributing factor in what appears to be a business and economic deci- sion, but still, to announce the show was toast with only a few episodes remaining felt like a low blow. In happier news, stars including Cath- erine Bell and James Denton remain attached to the channel, and there's reason enough to hope that "e Good Witch" might eventually re- vert to its TV-movie format, though it may be a while before anything happens on that front. Abrams to balance the freaky and the factual in this four-part Showtime docu-series ex- ploring the government's newly de- classified findings about our closest encounters with possible E.T.s. Jeers to "Animal Kingdom's" sav- age surprise. Even though TNT's crime-family drama kills characters left and right, it just didn't feel right to hear in the Aug. 8 episode that Emily Deschanel's ex-con Angela had been beaten to death off-cam- era. e "Bones" vet is a big enough name to earn an on-screen end.
