WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM AUGUST 18-24, 2021 UCW 19 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Sign of the Times Jesse Jones of Raleigh has adapted some of his infamous Halloween decorations for a different purpose: He has erected a 13-foot skeleton in his front yard with a sign attached that reads, "Not Vaccinated See You Soon Idiots!" WRAL-TV reported that Jones also set up some tombstones with messages directed at vaccine deniers. He lost his mother-in-law to COVID-19 and hopes his display will get people to focus on CDC recommendations. Don't Eat This A piece of wedding cake from the 1981 marriage of Lady Diana Spencer and Charles, Prince of Wales, sold at auction in western England on Aug. 11 for $2,565, CNN reported. The 28-ounce hunk of confection was taken from one of 23 cakes made for the occasion and features a coat-of-arms, a silver horseshoe and a leaf spray. The piece was apparently given to Moyra Smith, a staffperson for the Queen Mother, at the time of the wedding. Since then, it was kept wrapped in plastic inside a cake tin. After 40 years, auctioneer Chris Albury bragged, "It's an object that's going to last." Extreme Measures In London, Ontario, a per- snickety homeowner took mat- ters into his own hands when he ran his car into a neighbor who had been urinating on his lawn, BlogTO reported. The 38-year- old driver struck the victim, throwing him several meters and causing a gash on his head. The driver was charged with danger- ous operation of a vehicle caus- ing bodily harm, which could get him 10 years in prison. Inexplicable The latest trend in plastic sur- gery in China, according to Gulf Today, is the pointy ear. The modified ears resemble those of animated characters or fairy tale creatures, and they give the face "a slender shape," the site reported. Doctors first insert cartilage or an implant in the back of the ear, then fill it in with hyaluronic acid. Plastic surgery clinics in China are experiencing such great demand that patients have to get on waiting lists. Question: Will anyone ever show the final season of "Ray Donovan?" — RC Matt Roush: After canceling the se- ries, Showtime committed to a "Ray Donovan" film that will give fans some closure, while also looking back at the origin story of Ray (Liev Schreiber) and his wayward dad, Mickey (Jon Voight). Question: "Succession:" Will it ever be back? — Patty Matt Roush: Yes, of course it will. e pandemic delayed this Emmy- winning drama for quite a while, but it's reportedly on track to return this fall. Can't wait. To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to: tvinsider.com. By Damian Holbrook Cheers to Courteney Cox for scoring her first Emmy nomination! After a decade of being passed over in the acting categories while on "Friends," the Academy was finally there for the underrated Cox with a nod for her role as an executive pro- ducer on HBO Max's "Friends: e Reunion." Way to go, Mrs. Chanan- dler Bong! Jeers to Nerds Getting Respect. Between the rightful debut of Prime Video's "e Boys" in the Emmy's Outstanding Drama race, Disney+ epic "e Mandalorian" dominat- ing in 19 categories and "WandaVi- sion's" eye-popping 23 noms, it's nice to see the ever-widening scope of nominated genre shows while the Academy gets hip to what Comic- Con-goers have always known. Jeers to Disney+'s "Hamilton" for robbing others of their shot. It was initially planned as a theatrical event, and it's a filmed version of the stage production, which already swept the Tonys. Yet, this hit written by Lin-Manuel Miranda landed in both the Variety Special and Limited or Anthology Series or Movie cat- egories, bumping deserving folks in projects actually made for TV.
