AUGUST 2010 – It's A Good Life Supplement To Shelby Shopper & Info For Safe Driving Class Start Your Engines The Council on Aging/Senior Center offers the AARP’s Safe Driving Course several times a year; these courses are taught by AARP trained instructors. If you missed the Spring class, have no fear, because the next class is just around the corner. The class will be offered at the Leona Smith Neal Senior Center, located at 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, from 9:00 am until 1:00 on August 20, 2010. As we age, our reflexes become slower, our vision and hearing gradually diminish all of which affects our ability to drive safely. The AARP’s Safe Driving Program includes a comprehensive curriculum designed especially for the older motorist. Participants age 50 and above will refine existing skills and develop safe, defensive driving techniques. Also included is a review on how to handle adverse weather conditions and traffic hazards as well as how the effects of aging and medications impact driving. For more information or to register for the class, please call the Senior Center at 704- 482-3488. There is a fee of $12 for AARP members or $14 for non-AARP members to cover the cost for materials, which will due to the instructor on the date of the class. (You must present your AARP membership card to receive the discount on August 20, 2010.) Mark your calendars and join us for this important safety course.
