Remember that the Senior Center will be taking a van to State Finals and has a number of rooms blocked for Cleveland County Senior athletes at Comfort Suites in Cary. If you wish to ride the van or need a room, please contact Lisa (704-482-3488) by August 16, 2010. The room rate for Comfort Suites is $74 per night (includes free full breakfast), plus tax. The hotel has an indoor pool, whirlpool/hot tub, and each room has a microwave and refrigerator. The approximate cost to ride the van will be $30 per person. Low Income Subsidy Program Do you know someone who is on Medicare and needs assistance in paying for their prescription drugs? Medicare beneficiaries may be eligible for the federal Extra Help low income subsidy program if he/she has limited income and limited resources. The Extra Help program can increase cost savings by paying for all or part of the monthly premiums, annual deductibles and provide lower prescription co-payments under a Medicare prescrip- tion drug plan. All persons who receive Medicare and full Medicaid or people who are on Medicare and receive SSI are automatically enrolled in the extra help. All others must qualify by meeting these income and asset eligibility guidelines: single- less than $16,245 yearly, assets less than $12,510; and couples-less than $21,855, assets less than $25,010. Kick Up Your Heels New Dance Classes In September Beginning on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 the Neal Senior Center at 100 TR Harris Drive, in Shelby will offer a bi-weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays) Beginning Ballroom Dance class. The classes will be taught by Mr. Tom Milo of Rutherfordton. Mr. Milo has been dancing since the age of 5. He has competed in national ballroom competitions and has a diploma in the five major dances in international style dance and has taught dance on 35 cruises over the last ten years. The Senior Center’s Beginning Ballroom Class will feature the Waltz, Cha Cha and Fox Trot. The one hour classes will begin at 2:30 pm each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Cost for the classes (twice a week) will be $32-$40 per person, per month (based on the number of Tuesdays and Thursdays in the month). Payment for classes is payable in full at the first class of each month. Dance students should bring a pair of soft to medium soled comfortable shoes to wear during class. Conflict and Confrontation Training The Neal Senior Center (100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby, NC) will offer a training session on Conflict and Confrontation on August 18, 2010 at 1:30 pm. The training will be led by Steve Leatherwood of EAP & Counseling Associates. Anyone working in a service –orient- ed agency will benefit from this training session, which is open to the public. Medication therapy management, also referred to as MTM, is a term used to describe a broad range of health care services provided by pharmacists, the medication experts on the health care team. Why Is Medication Therapy Management Needed? Medication-related problems and medication mismanagement are a massive public health problem in the United States. Experts estimate that 1.5 million preventable adverse events occur each year that result in $177 billion in injury and death. Who Can Benefit From Medication Therapy Management? Anyone who uses prescription medications, non-prescription medications, herbals, or other dietary supplements may potentially benefit from medication therapy management services.
