COUNTY TOURISM PROMOTION - SECURING POSITIVE PUBLICITY AS A TRAVEL DESTINATION One of the ways the Faye eville Area Conven on and Visitors Bureau (FACVB) works to posi on Cumberland County as a des na on for mee ngs, tournaments and individual travel is to secure posi ve publicity for the community in travel and trade blogs and print publica ons. The FACVB ac vely works to secure regional, state and na onal publicity for Cumberland County's tourism assets. How does the FACVB manage this effort? As the Director of Communica ons, I work directly with the media in a variety of ways: • A end media events throughout the south. At these events, I present a endees with a pitch sheet with story ideas for their outlets. O en these marketplace events are the first me I meet with a journalist. With follow-up, I con nue to build rela onships leading to securing visits and stories. • Complete media outreach on events, developments and products available in Cumberland County. • Invite writers to visit and explore the community. The FACVB typically hosts at least 12 writers, bloggers and influenc- ers each year. While the COVID-19 pandemic forced writer visits to look different, they s ll visited. In the 20/21 FY, the FACVB hosted 16 writers, with two more visits s ll to hap- pen this June. • All of the media outreach efforts are supported across all of the bureau's social media channels. In the 20/21 FY, 50 out-of- market pieces of publicity promo ng Cumberland County's tourism assets were generated. If you would like more informa on on how the FACVB works with travel and trade media; or if you have an idea for a story, please contact me at mfoote@visi aye evillenc.com or 483-5311.
