I t's no secret that this academic year has come with unforeseen trials and tribulations because of the pandemic, but we have stayed busy by doing various projects around the house. Early in the year, we rearranged the furniture in the court area outside, and we added a new grill, pickleball set, and even a fire pit. We used this space a lot during the fall and even hosted one of our brotherhood events here, sitting around the fire and watching a Chiefs football game on a projector. When winter rolled around, we had to resort to being inside most of the time and needed a place to go and watch all the football games. We worked together to clean out the recreation room and got all the televisions (in addition to a new TV) synced together with their respective cable boxes. We also completely rearranged our weight room, adding new equipment, such as a new rack, treadmill, new smith machine parts, and barbells. Thus far it has been a great year and projects like these around the house have kept us busy and have highlighted the importance of teamwork. With the new furniture in the formal rooms, the house has never looked better. Please stop by anytime you're in Lawrence! We would love to show you around and introduce you to the young men enjoying the brotherhood that exists because of steadfast alumni like you. In response to the pandemic, the University of Kansas either completely or partially suspended all in-person classes and opted to modify other aspects of teaching procedures, inadvertently making traditional modes of learning more difficult. Despite these adversities, our brothers maintained our commitment to consistent academic performance. During the last two semesters, 19 brothers achieved a 4.0 GPA and averaged a chapter-wide GPA of 3.425. We were able to distribute 64 scholarship checks from the Alpha Xi endowment fund for our outstanding academic performers. While the pandemic did not allow alumni to attend the fall scholarship dinner, we were able to have alumni in attendance for our spring dinner. Our speaking guest for this dinner was our chapter's newest Significant Sig, Rich Reda '93. It was a wonderful evening that showed us the true meaning and power of our brotherhood. I am incredibly thankful that I was able to contribute to the experiences of learning in teaching. I've created a bond with every one of the new members of the house, and I truly believe that they will continue to lead this house, following the wisdom and virtues of our founders. I'm also thankful for what Austin has done to mentor me and assist in my learning as assistant magister, and I feel confident and fully prepared to lead the next group of members to initiation and lifelong brotherhood.
