The DePauw Phi 2 A s we kicked off the spring 2021 semester with COVID-19 protocols still in place, we continued to use technology as means of social interactions and education. Nevertheless, we successfully navigated every challenge we were presented with, including classes remaining remote, virtual Chapter sessions for the first time in Indiana Zeta's history, and recruitment being held remotely over Zoom. While these have become customary actions within our lives, DePauw Phis have welcomed the return of more face-to- face interactions. After four weeks of remote classes and virtual Phikeia education, the light at the end of the tunnel began to appear. Classes moved to mixed options, allowing for students to return to the classrooms and see their professors in person. With an updated visitor policy, our Phikeia were allowed to enter the Chapter facility and meet the other members in person. This spring, we were fortunate enough to have 40 members move into the Chapter facility. Our members rose to the challenge of staying safe and healthy by practicing social distancing and masking in order to keep COVID- 19 astray. We managed the pandemic successfully, and on April 2, DePauw provided the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine to students. As academics remain the top priority at Indiana Zeta, I am honored to share that we achieved a 3.49 GPA for the fall 2020 semester. What's more, three of our 14 Phikeia achieved a 4.0 in their first semester of college. Speaking of our Phikeia, all 14 of them have been initiated and have already shown initiative to the future of the Chapter by getting involved on the executive committee. Our Phikeia bring a variety of athletic talents to the Chapter. Their class is comprised of four football players, three golfers, two baseball players, two soccer players, and one basketball player. With all athletics taking place in the spring to make up for lost fall seasons, we had many athletic accomplishments. The football team finished 3-0 for an undefeated season with the help of senior starters Luther Hall '21 and Billy Dreveline '21. The golf team won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate tournament with Kinder Jones '21 shooting rounds of 74 and 76, finishing fifth overall, and leading the Tigers. Kinder won the Mount St. Joseph Spring Invite, carding impressive rounds of 73 and 70. Golf and spikeball were popular activities for all brothers to play throughout the spring. Several brothers took advantage of playing at Tiger Pointe Country Club, which is managed by CJ Johnston '83. Phis improved their games drastically in preparation for the Phi Delt Open, which took place on April 24. We were thrilled to have 40 participants—including Phis, friends, and family members—who helped raise more than $1,600 for the LiveLikeLou Foundation for ALS research. I had a great time being paired with my parents, as we posted a score of 8-under to win the nine-hole scramble tournament. Unfortunately, for a second year in a row, we couldn't attend the Lund Scholarship Banquet in person. However, the Lund family and the scholarship committee still named Wilson Graves '22, Yousaf Khan '22, Justin Brinegar '22, and Whitaker Lyons '22 as 2021 Lund scholars. We are eager for this tradition to resume in person so we can properly share our thanks. With the 2020-21 academic year in the books, we are excited for the 25 seniors who graduated May 23. Many of them are starting full-time jobs, law school, or continuing their education to achieve master's degrees. We know they will uphold the values of Phi Delta Theta, and we will do our best to follow the great example they have set at Indiana Zeta for the past four years.
