MU CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA EPSILON | COLGATE UNIVERSITY | VOL. LVI, NO. II SPRING 2021 Yon Clarion Bell NEWSLETTER OF THE MU OF DKE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, INC. In This Issue: Good News in the World of Mu 2-3 Mystic Circle 4 I hope you enjoy reading the "Good News in the World of Mu" in this YCB. The past year has provided further evidence for something we all have known: Mu of DKE's positive impact on the world extends far beyond Broad Street and the value of our association with each other grows stronger each year as alumni. It has always been this way, and even more so since 2005. We no longer have a recognized undergraduate presence, but our commitment to our values remains steadfast and our alumni ranks have swelled as a result. Mu only changes to remain the same. This obviously speaks to our core values, but I am constantly amazed that through Mu's long history, we have made deliberate adjustments to our operations while always keeping our values at the core of these decisions. This approach has served Mu well and we continue to thrive. I will miss seeing you at the LPM and Temple this June, but I am hopeful we will be gathering together in the fall. In the Bonds, Sean Fitzmichael Devlin '05 Chairman, Mu of DKE Foundation C olin Cowles '13 joined Delta Kappa Epsilon as an alumnus in the 154 Class of Mu after seeing that Mu was a group of incredibly tight, loyal friends. "They cared more about the collective group and the friendship it stood for rather than their brand image," Colin said. "The first occasion I spent with the brothers, I instantly felt at home and welcomed." He quickly learned that the Chapter operated with a higher level of unity and commitment than any other Greek organization at Colgate. "Hands down, the most memorable moment from my time at Colgate as an alum was my first time entering the Temple," Colin said. "Nothing else needs to be said." During his undergraduate years, Colin says that spring break trips with his future brothers were the stuff of legend. "The crew that took on Mont Tremblant in Quebec will go down in history as one of the best," Colin said. "I'm still not sure if I'm allowed back into Canada after that extravaganza." Colin lived in 12 Maple, also known as The Tomb, during his senior year. The Tomb had the benefit of a structurally sound basement that could withstand the intensity of private and open social events. "We put its limits to the test when one of us took out a foundational support beam by accident in the heat of a dance battle," Colin said. Although he and his future brothers had a ton of fun, Colin also gained much from his undergraduate leadership opportunities. He made friends with many younger classmates who eventually followed in his steps to join the 155th Class of Mu when they became alumni. "We affectionately described each potential brother as 'the man,'" Colin said. Upon receiving his bachelor's degree in physics from Colgate University, Colin went on to complete a Master of The More Things Change, The More They Stay the Same Shoot for the Stars Colin Cowles '13 Reflects on His Time with DKE, Shares Career Highlights with SpaceX (Continued on page 3)
