2 Yon Clarion Bell Left: Brothers bond during the annual DKE Ski Weekend in Colorado last year. From left: Phil Gager '00, Andrew Wigton '00, Brian Morrissey '00, Ian Wilson '00, Mike Fontenot '00, David Ganick '99, Mike Cucchiara '00, and Johnny Angelopulos '01. Right: Mike Fontenot '00 and his family on a camping trip in the Rocky Mountains. I n January 2021, Mike Fontenot '00 sustained a serious eye injury playing his beloved pastime of lacrosse. The result could be anywhere from full loss of sight in that eye to full recovery. He is under good care and close monitoring, but he was also laid off right before the pandemic and still lacks health insurance thanks to a poor job market. Mu brothers have come together thanks to Tim Romano '01 and chipped in to support Mike's family financially in this challenging time. Fifty-six Mu brothers have raised nearly $20,000 and counting toward Mike's recovery. Prior to this injury, Mike had a health scare when he discovered, at the last possible moment, a 95% blockage in the left anterior descending coronary artery (aka the widow-maker). He urges us all to listen to our bodies, not ignore symptoms, and get medical expertise before it's too late. If you have any ideas for a recurring "men's health" article, please reach out to Sean Devlin '05. "I believe that all these things have happened to me because I can handle it, and if my bad luck lessens the burden for someone else, then I can live with that and feel good about it," Mike says. "I'm positive I will get through all of this, but it's important to note that I couldn't do it without everyone's incredible support!" At this time, the extent of Mike's medical expenses are unclear, but if you'd like to contribute, visit www.gofundme.com/f/help-mike- pay-medical-expenses-due-to-accident. This story is classic Mu! GOOD NEWS in the World of Mu B eyond Broad Street and Colgate University, our Mu of DKE brotherhood continues to make a positive impact in the world. It's been a rough year for so many of us, but the following stories of brothers assisting each other, friends of the Chapter, and even the National Fraternity brought smiles to each of us as we received them. We hope they will do the same for you all. If this inspires you to share your own good news in a future issue, please send it to Sean Devlin '05 at sfitzmichaeld@msn.com.
