Each Friday at 5 p.m. the health system opens appointments for the subsequent weeks through its website, www.capefearvalley. com/covid19. During recent weeks, only about 15% of the appointments were filled by Monday morning. "What we're worried about is the vaccine sup- ply is outpacing demand," said Vice President of Professional Services at Cape Fear Valley Health Chris Tart. "We need to encourage everyone to roll their sleeves up and be vaccinated so we can continue to put this pandemic behind us." e available supply of all vaccines has also expand- ed, with more traditional providers and retail lo- cations such as pharmacies offering inoculations. Rabid raccoon confirmed in Cumberland County e State Public Health Lab has notified local officials that a dead raccoon found at a home in Eastover had rabies. Animal Services impounded the raccoon early this month. e resident arrived home from work to find his dog playing with the animal, and contacted Animal Services. Because there was no record of the dog being vaccinated, state law required that it be quarantined for four months at a veterinary hospital or be euthanized. is was the first case of rabies in Cumberland County this year. Pet owners are urged to check the vaccina- tion status of their dogs and cats. e first sign of rabies in animals is a change in behavior. Animals may become aggressive, attacking for no reason, or they may become unusually tranquil. Avoiding wild animals and keeping distant from stray dogs and cats is the first step to avoid being bitten. Any pet, which appears to have been in a fight should be seen by a veterinarian. It was PWC's 15th Spirit award since 2003. PWC was one of 78 organizations recognized. In 2020, PWC employees pledged over $156,000 to the annual United Way campaign. PWC utilized the United Way's new on-line pledge form and successfully adapted its annual giving campaign to overcome workplace challenges of COVID-19. e United Way of Cumberland County recog- nized PWC as its Marquis Award winner for hav- ing the highest number of Marquis/Leadership contributions and named PWC's Carolyn Justice- Hinson as Campaign Manager of the Year. 'Murder for Two' returns to CFRT in May A year ago, Cape Fear Regional eatre had to close its sold-out production of "Murder for Two" a week early because of the stay-at-home order brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. CFRT announced it is bringing the hilarious murder mystery back to Fayetteville from May 20 - June 5. e production will be an open-air experience off-site at 5419 Raeford Road, the former loca- tion of the D&E Auto Gallery. is will be the second production that CFRT has taken outside the theater since the pandemic began. In October, CFRT produced "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill" following strict social distancing and safety protocols. "We are thrilled to have this opportunity to bring our community together again for 'Murder for Two,'" said Mary Catherine Burke, CFRT's Ar- tistic Director. "Like a tall drink of water for your soul, 'Murder for Two' is the perfect, hilarious an- ecdote to the lingering effects of the pandemic." Laura Josepher is returning to direct the produc- tion along with actor Ben Miller, who is reviving his role of "e Suspects." Animal adoption set for April 24 at Segra e Fayetteville Woodpeckers are partnering with local animal rescues and pet vendors to host an adoption event at Segra Stadium on Sat- urday, April 24 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. is event is free to the public and will coincide with the first opportunity for fans to purchase tickets for May Woodpeckers home baseball games. Interested people can meet available dogs and cats from each rescue and fill out adoption applications. e Woodpeckers will also be collecting items for the rescues. Donations of $5 or more will re- ceive 10% off in e Birds' Nest Team Store. Items requested include: cleaning products (paper towels, disinfectant spray or wipes), canned or dry dog and cat food, treats and puppy pads. Pets are not allowed at this event except for dogs and cats with each respective rescues. e Birds' Nest Team Store will be open. Masks are required when entering the ball- park. e Woodpeckers will release its promo- tional calendar for the month of May prior to tickets going on sale. e home opener is sched- uled for Tuesday, May 11 against the visiting Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. A limited amount of tickets for Woodpeckers home games will be available on a month-by- month basis. Fans can purchase tickets for any of the six May games from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in-person at the BB&T Now Truist Box Office. For anyone not able to buy in-person, tickets will become available online starting April 26th at 10 a.m. Individual game tickets for 2021 May home games will be available in safe, socially-distanced pods. Due to local and state health and safety guidelines and socially-distanced seating, Segra Stadium's capacity is expected to be at 30% to begin the season. For this reason, the best chance for fans to get seats to 2021 home games is to purchase a Full-Season, Half-Season, or 20-Game Membership.
