WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM 14 UCW APRIL 21-27, 2021 EVENT Dogwood Mini-Fest scheduled for April 23-25 by KEYURI PARAB KEYURI PARAB, Editorial Assistant COMMENTS? Editor@upandcomin- gweekly.com 910-484-6200. With the pandemic moving slowly behind us, local favorites like the Dog wood Festival are pre- paring their comeback. Dog wood's Mini-Fest, a family friendly hybrid event will be held April 23-25 at the Westwood Shopping Center, where they held their drive- through festival last fall. The Fayetteville Dog wood Festival, a non- profit that focuses on providing family centered activities, is usually held in historic Downtown Fayetteville in late April of each year. But due to the pandemic, this year's event will be a Mini-Fest as a smaller, safer way to gather in public, organi- zers said. "We are pleased to have a presence in the com- munity on the weekend that would've been our big spring festival," Jackie Tuckey, immediate past chair said. "And being that it's outdoors and the weather's nice, we think there will be people who would want to come out and look at cars, motor- cycles and enjoy the music." Mini-Fest will kick off with "Word on the Street!" on April 23 with a poetry performance from 5-7 p.m. (Early Bird) and another one from 8-10 p.m. (Date Night Edition). Both iterations will highlight local poets and have live music and wine. "Word on the Street!" will be held at The Arts Council of Fayetteville located downtown. Tickets to the event are limited and are priced at $15 gene- ral admission and $25 per table for two. The event will follow socially distant protocols and allow about 30 people in compliance with COVID-19 guidelines. Attendees are asked to wear masks at the event and socially distance as best as they can, Tuckey said. On April 24, Mini-Fest will host the "2021 Mini- Fest Car Show" and "Saturday Night Concert at the Westwood Shopping Center." The car show will take place in the day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the concert is scheduled for 6-9:30 p.m. The events will offer fair food, music, as well as local arts and crafts vendors, Tuckey mentioned. The car show will be judging three categories, Antique (1976 and earlier), Classic (1977-2000) and Modern (2001 to present). More information is available on their Instagram account at @dwfcars- how, or email dwfcarshow@gmail.com Registration for the car show is limited. Pre- registration starts at $25 and the day of registrati- on will be $35. Bubba's 33 will provide a beer garden in the parking lot for attendees. Dog wood's Mini-Fest will close with their last event, the "2021 Mini-Fest Bike Show" on April 25 from noon to 3 p.m. Participants can register at https://w w w.eventbrite.com/e/dog wood-festival- bike-show-tickets-149949475919?aff=erelpanelorg "Food vendors from past years and more will provide fair food options like turkey legs, fried Oreos, funnel cake, corn dogs, g yros, cotton candy, candy apples, kettle corn and more," Tuckey said.
