and sponsors of the organization are
super passionate about helping kids in
our state encounter the natural world
and open their eyes to see and learn
what's around them. All of the centers
are "part classroom, part museum and
part playground," according to the
AFGC website.
In Northwest Arkansas we get to
live in the Ozark mountains, to have
forests and caves, rivers and lakes, and
all the creatures that inhabit them—
beavers, deer, bears, eagles, herons,
trout, bass—what a wealth of wonders!
the center is located at 3400 North 40th street in springdale and is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
tuesday-saturday and 1-5 p.m. sundays. You can get your parents or teachers to schedule a visit by
going to the website: https://www.agfc.com/en/explore-outdoors/nature-and-education-centers/jbjhfohnc/.
they can also call steve Dunlap at 479-409-5243.
We also get to learn how to be good
stewards and conserve. As Steve
points out, "There is no better way
for kids to learn wildlife and fisheries
conservation than to step outside and
get hands on experience."
One way to get that experience is
to be involved in the Outdoors Skills
Program offered at the center. You can
earn really cool patches by developing
your skills in archery, fishing, hunting,
trapping, wildlife watching, paddle
sports and others. These classes are
held year-round. You can also ask
your teacher to schedule a class visit.
"We hope teachers will use our own
educators and facilities to enhance
outdoor related subjects in their
curriculum," Steve said.
