Hair, Nails, and Pedicure Services HOURS: MON - FRIDAY & SATURDAY BY APPOINTMENT By Salome High Journalism Staff Here at SHS, everyone expected to come back to school after a two- week winter break. But in order to help out with the current pandemic situation, we did online classes for two weeks fi rst. After the fi rst cautionary week, the school board voted to bring school back and to allow students to get taught in class instead of online if they wanted. We asked for some student's input on what they thought about this whole situation. Katie Watlington, a senior, said, "I knew that we would be going back online again because of all the cases that had gone up during winter break. I think having the students back in person with the other students is great! It's good to talk to each other and create memories instead of being alone and bored at home." Students of the high school have the option to stay home and keep doing online or they can come to the school and continue their classes. From the teacher's perspective, Mr. Tapp stated, "I'm excited to have students back in person. We've done some fun things with the on- line school, but it will be good to get to some more hands-on activities with those students who can come in person!" After an uncertain beginning, the basketball season has fi nally started back up. The frogs play at home on January 28th against Bagdad. Then in February, they play at home on the 3rd against Ash Fork, the 6th against Seligman, the 11th against Williams, the 19th against Anthem Prep, the 20th against El Capitan, and the 26th against MALC. At the time of this writing, spectators are limited to the parents of the players per required AIA guidelines. Coach McCarty is the returning girls' basketball coach this year but his assistant coach is new to the po- sition. Mrs. Salazar will be helping the girls out as assistant coach. On the boys' side of the court, Mr. Pugliese is starting his fi rst season as boys basketball coach here at SHS. When asked about the season Coach McCarty said "I know we will be young this season, but I've had a blast coaching this group so far. They are hungry to learn and work extremely hard to get things correct. We are going to play hard!" Salome High School Updates
