February 3 COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Quartzsite Quartzsite, AZ- One of the fi rst persons to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Quartzsite was Connie Sweeney, of Medical Lake, Wash- ington. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 also happened to be her 86th birthday. She was so happy and said, "What a way to celebrate!" Her husband Mike also received his vaccination. The couple have been wintering in Quartzsite for the past 19 years. Their daughter, Colleen Baker accompanied them at Quartzsite Improvement As- soc. where La Paz County Health Dept. (LPCHD) vaccinated 600 individuals. The Health Department also held a vaccination clinic in Parker the following day, vaccinating 520 individuals. A third clinic for 75+ older age groups will be held Wed. February 3rd in Wenden. People who received their fi rst vaccination were issued a date for their second shot - in fi ve weeks. The Health Dept said they will issue Notices of upcoming vaccination clinics on the LPCHD Facebook page and with local press. Desert Messenger will announce more details as soon as notifi ed. The Heath Dept. had two special phone numbers for scheduling ap- pointments, and said, "Please do not call the Health Department. We apologize in advance for any busy signals on the appointment lines. Unfortunately we have very limited staff." Offi cials hope for another clinic for 75+ older soon, and then add the 65+ age groups. U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers prepare and administer CO- VID-19 vaccines Jan. 27, 2021 at a La Paz County Health Depart- ment site in Quartzsite, Ariz. Arizona National Guardsmen from Papago Park Military Reserva- tion (PPMR) are scheduled to continue assisting the administer- ing of COVID-19 vaccines, as well as helping to distribute the vac- cination to sites throughout Arizona.
