Aer a couple of weeks, however, the beauty shop couldn't accommodate the number of eager women ready to lend their voice to the chorus, so the group moved to a church choir room. From these humble beginnings came the Bella Vista women's barbershop chorus, Perfect Harmony. It's just one of the many different groups and clubs in Bella Vista. It has continued under Karen's direction now for over 20 years. "I think our organization is important because of the great joy we get out of coming together as friends," said Ann Glover, who sings bass. Women's barbershop choruses have four sections: lead and tenor, for higher voices; baritone and bass, for those with lower voices. All songs are memorized and sung a cappella - without any instrumental accompaniment. e current chorus has about 25 active members and performs at senior facilities and veteran's hospitals as well as for non- profit organizations, clubs and civic events throughout Northwest Arkansas. "Singing is good for the body and soul," said Sally Benson, lead and baritone, who functions as Master of Ceremonies and has underwritten several special events for the chorus. "It helps me breathe better, too." In addition to giving free concerts, the chorus is active in supporting local charities, including the Shepherd's Food Pantry, Restoration Village and many other Bella Vista organizations. "Perfect Harmony brings women together who love to sing," said Susan Wildman, who sings lead in the group. "And beyond that, we spread the joy to others." Perfect Harmony women's barbershop chorus meets every Monday 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Highland Christian Church at 1500 Forest Hills, Bella Vista. No previous experience or try- outs are required to join this fun-loving chorus.
