City Market at the Museum is an open-air market featuring local produce and artisans. On Jan. 21, Lake Rim Park will host Leaf Critters. Under all those leaves that fall from trees exist a whole community of tiny or- ganisms that play an important role in the food web. If it was not for these tiny decompos- ers we would find ourselves wading through mounds of leaves every time we went into the forest. Also on Jan. 21, Lake Rim Park hosts e Man in the Moon from 7-9 p.m. Partici- pants can learn the origin, history and legends of our satellite - the moon - while observing its surface with binoculars and telescopes. Bayard Clark Park and Nature Center is having a Baby Alligator Meet and Greet on Jan. 22 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. You can visit with the Nature Center's cutest new resident, a baby alligator. Participants can learn about alligators in the wild in North Carolina, find out what they eat, where they live and how big they can get. ere will be an opportunity to safely pet this tiny little predator. Baby alligators grow fast and won't stay small for long. Registration for the free event begins Jan. 8. On Jan. 28, Clark Park and Nature Center hosts Oysters: Beauty or Beast? From 3:30– 4:30 p.m. For $1 cash, you can meet a sea crea- ture that looks like a rock, tastes like the ocean and makes beautiful treasure. Learn how they live and build huge structures in the ocean and see what happens when they get bothered. Participants will end this class with the chance to taste a fried oyster, and take home a bag of their shells for your collection. e J. On Jan. 23 Sweet Tea Shakespeare will pres- ent "e Revenger's Tragedy," a live virtual production beginning at 7:30 p.m. Based on the story by omas Middleton first performed and published in the early 1600s, it is a tale of lust, ambition and revenge. It is, in the words of the late-Robin Williams, absolutely "full goose bozo." According to STS, it has all of the expected revenge play tropes but thrown into a blender without a lid. No one comes out of this craziness clean – nor does anyone deserve to do so. Everyone is out to get someone else, and no one more so than Vindice, the "revenger." Soon, they are undone by guilt, hubris and a professor from their past. Used as the basis for the Alfred Hitchcock clas- sic starring Jimmy Stewart, "Rope" promises to be a thriller you'll want to "hang around" to see. To reserve tickets or get more information call 910-678-7186 or visit https:// gilberttheater.com/season27/rope.php. e Ghost Army: Artists of Deception exhibit continues through April 23 at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. rough this special exhibit, visitors can learn the comprehensive story of the 23rd Head- quarters Special Troops — the first mobile, multimedia, tactical deception unit in Army history — and their role in Allied victory in World War II. e Ghost Army consisted of a carefully selected group of artists, engineers, soldiers, including fashion designer Bill Blass, painter Ellsworth Kelly and photographer Art Kane. e unit waged war with inflatable tanks and vehicles, fake radio traffic, sound effects and even phony generals, using imagination and illusion to trick the enemy while saving thousands of lives. e 23rd took part in 22 large-scale deceptions in Europe from Nor- mandy to the Rhine River.
