Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Chi at The University of Texas H Fall 2020 Founded in 1884 A s the world takes things day by day, the Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Chi remains focused on the future. We are thrilled to report that social distancing protocols haven't impacted our construction timeline and our new Chapter House is progressing as scheduled. We are preparing to lay the foundation of our new home. While we didn't get to host the groundbreaking celebration, we cheered from afar as the lot was excavated and prepped for construction. We can't wait to share progress photos as construction accelerates throughout the fall and winter! We are committed to continued communications and keeping our alumni informed on the project, so keep an eye out for new updates. With 170 brothers and friends invested in its success, it is important to us that we serve as good stewards of your donations. I am honored to serve as campaign chairman to the Alpha Nu… A Tradition to Build Upon capital campaign and remain grateful for the trust placed in us and all alumni volunteers. This project is taking a group effort, and we wouldn't want it any other way. This will be a home for all brothers; the new facility will be a constant at The University of Texas for young men to learn, serve, and thrive together as brothers of Sigma Chi. Brothers, now is the time to join our campaign efforts. We need to reach our $3 million goal to ensure we create a Chapter House that fits the caliber of our newest brothers and helps them stay competitive on campus. To maximize your giving, pledges can be scheduled over a five- year period. We are a brotherhood of likeminded men who want the best for Alpha Nu, and we can achieve that together through the capital campaign. Your gift or pledge can be made online at txsigmachi.org/campaign or by using the enclosed pledge card and monarch and mailing it back to us. Please consider giving back to Alpha Nu Chapter today. On behalf of all of our Chapter leadership, volunteers, and active members, I would like to wish everyone a safe and healthy winter. We can't wait to show you the new Chapter House once construction is finished! In Hoc Signo Vinces, Lucian Morehead '94 Campaign Chairman (512) 825-6287 lmorehead@asterra.com Alpha Nu Grateful for Alumni Investments Construction of Our New Chapter House Is Underway! How did being in Alpha Nu help shape you as a person? The first thought that comes to mind are the character traits set forth in the Jordan Standard, which we all committed to memory as pledges. Striving to live my life with a focus on those traits, as well as a deep faith, has proved to be a pretty good recipe in navigating my personal and business life journeys. How, if at all, did being in Sigma Chi impact your career path? Prior to enrolling at Texas and pledging Sigma Chi, I already knew that I wanted to pursue a major in Petroleum Land Management. My dad was involved in the industry and suggested that I look into it as the basis for a career path. Turns out that it was a very popular major around the house. My Big Brother, Lanny Frazier '77, his Big Brother, Howard Isbell '74, along with Buz Jochetz '76, Hank Kremers '76, Bill Moffitt '75, and pledge brothers Greg Evans '79 and Mike Coffield '77, to name just a few, were pursuing the same path. Lanny was instrumental in securing a summer internship for me with him at Houston Oil & Minerals, and I also enjoyed the privilege early on in my 40-plus year career path to work with Brother Jochetz at Gulf Coast Prospectors. I am convinced (to borrow a line from my pledge brother David Walton '79) that the "social" education each of us experienced at the Alpha Nu house prepared us well for our future dealings and successes in the business world.
