Fall 2020 INSIDE: 2020 Has Nothing on Beta Omicron • Page 2 Chapter Officers • Page 2 New Members • Page 4 BETA CHRONICLE Beta Omicron Chapter of Beta Theta Pi at the University of Texas T he abundance of accolades Beta Omicron has accrued throughout its prestigious history gives every brother plenty of reasons to be proud. However, some of the journeys to get to those accomplishments have been filled with bumps along the way. e manner in which we have responded during those difficult and uncertain times is what separates Beta eta Pi from other fraternities. As the ongoing crisis of COVID-19 impacts the health and daily routines of billions of people worldwide, we are all being challenged in ways we haven't been before. First and foremost, Beta Omicron wishes good health to all brothers and wants to remind you of the strong support system you have in our great brotherhood. Since it's more important than ever to reconnect and lean on one another, Beta Omicron is coming back to your mailbox and emails. at's right— aer a bit of time away, we are thrilled to relaunch our communication efforts, starting with this newsletter! Our Chapter House, which we purchased on Shoal Creek, turned out not to be suitable for the Chapter's needs. We also encountered zoning issues and an organized resistance from several neighborhood groups. Fortunately, we were able to sell the house and are continuing to explore housing options. We luckily did so prior to COVID-19, avoiding the problems that many houses on campus experienced. I am very proud of the scholastic and recruitment achievements of the active Chapter, which you can read about further in this newsletter. At October's meeting, the Texas Beta Student Aid Fund Board (TBSAF) adopted a scholarship program for our Chapter beginning next spring. We are still working out the details, but we plan to award several scholarships for high-achieving brothers of Beta Omicron. We are excited to offer this benefit to help our members. Alumni engagement comes in many forms—especially as we adapt to an increased focus on digital communication during this pandemic. Below are just a few of the ways you can reconnect with your active and alumni brothers and help Beta Omicron in the process: • Locate contact information for brothers who are missing out on the Beta Chronicle. See the "lost list" on the biographical update enclosed in this newsletter. • Provide your email address to receive our digital updates (we're likely missing it). Send your primary email to our alumni communications coordinator at chammond@penningtonco.com. • Volunteer as a board member. Contact TBSAF President Don Roberts '69 at edroberts@financialguide.com with any questions and inquiries. • Read the newsletter and follow our social media. • Refer an incoming freshman you believe would be a Man of Principle. Contact Miles Carey '22 at recruitment@texasbeta.org with the potential new member's information. • Mentor an undergraduate. Contact Don Roberts at edroberts@ financialguide.com for more details. • Tell us what you're up to! Complete the biographical update document inserted into this newsletter and mail it back. You could be featured in the next Beta Chronicle! • Share your copy of Beta Chronicle with brothers, family, and friends. Let them know that Texas Beta is back and stronger than ever! We hope this inspires you to reconnect with a valued alumni brother or two and (once it's safe again) to visit the active Chapter and see what they're up to. We can't wait to show you how things are going at Beta Omicron in 2021!
