2 MU NEWS T his year has been an unexpected time for our sisters, yet the women of Mu chapter have stayed strong and pressed on, demonstrating their leadership, compassion and dedication to the sisterhood and wider community. WELCOME HOME, HOOTIES! Recruitment Chairman Kaelin Garemani '19 gracefully led our members through the new environment of fall primary Zoom recruitment, with the help of Personnel Chairman Marci Peck '19, our head of internal recruitment and resident Zoom techie. As a result of our dedication, we welcomed 49 new members to our chapter! New Member Educator Peyton White '19 planned a fun-filled, disco-themed bid day over Zoom to celebrate our newest members. MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR CHAPTER AND COMMUNITY My sisters continue to inspire me with their leadership and dedication amidst the obstacles of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the summer, External Philanthropy Chairman Mikayla Hubbard '20 organized a chapter fundraiser, and we were able to send $1,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and $6,704 to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute with corporate matching. Our community development chairman, Alisa Lemere '20, joined our national special committee on diversity, equity and inclusion, one of six collegiate sisters on the team. Our members remain involved in a variety of campus organizations, staying active in the community as ever. Sidney Carrigan '20 is the associate director for Senator Castro's Pre-Law Department and works in the Office of External Affairs Vice President's federal relations branch and for the ASUC Renters' Legal Assistance, along with other members of Mu. Senior Sammy Garcia '19 is a student mentor for the Sage Mentorship Project and volunteers for Red Cross and at Alta Bates. We are excited to initiate our newest members at the end of October and are preparing for many enjoyable chapter events. Director of Community Service Angelina Espinoza '19 is planning our first ever Pumpkin-grams, benefitting the Make-a-Wish Foundation, where students will be able to order a mini pumpkin, Halloween candy, and personalized note to send to their friends and bring some socially distanced Halloween fun. Social Director Arielle Ghiloni '20 is also organizing safe virtual events such as Netflix party nights, care packages, and dance parties! Thank you to our alumnae for your continued support. While our chapter house is not currently open for visits, we are sending warm wishes from afar and look forward to welcoming you back as soon as is safe.
