020 has certainly been a time of necessary learning and flexibility
from the Tau House Corporation Board. When the University
of Iowa moved to virtual classes in March, 305 S. Summit Street
closed early for the year for the safety of our members. In returning
to campus this fall, we knew many changes would need to be made.
Over the summer, our board met several times to discuss dining,
cleaning, and living protocols for our members.
At this time, only live-ins are allowed in the Chapter house and
meals have been spread out over the course of a few hours to allow
for proper distancing. Members are required to wear masks in the
common areas of the house, and our cleaning company is vigilant
about sanitizing commonly used surfaces and deep-cleaning certain
areas of the house (ex. bathrooms and kitchen) every day. Our
members have demonstrated great personal responsibility with all
the new policies. Their concern for the safety of their sisters, our
employees, and themselves is truly admirable.
The House Corporation used funds from our reserves to cover
unexpected costs due to COVID-19 and the undergraduates
moving out of the house earlier than normal. We are grateful that
loyal alumnae ensured that our Chapter was able to overcome this
financial hardship due to past generosity.
