Fall • 2020 drake.sigep.org Iowa Delta Embraces Challenges of Virtual Recruitment Like many other aspects on Drake's campus, fraternity and sorority recruitment looked very different than previous years. However, Iowa Delta put in countless hours of training with alumni and members of SigEp Headquarters to prepare for a virtual recruitment. We were very optimistic about the remote recruitment setup and had online events throughout the week. While fewer students were signed up for recruitment, our outlook didn't change. We were proud to welcome 15 new members to Iowa Delta. "Although it is a challenging time, the spirit and resilience of SigEp and its members have not wavered," Vice President of Recruitment Hoff Boyea '21 said. "We are going into the school year with uncertainty, but one thing is for certain: SigEp will survive and thrive." Prior to recruitment week, brothers met with Mike Wolbert, who served a mentor to a handful of brothers at SigEp's Ruck Leadership Institute last year. "It was great hearing from Mike again," Noah Brinkmeyer '21 said. "He really makes you discover your own understanding of SigEp's values and will always challenge you to be better in the long run." We also met with Tony Lorino '03, who was Iowa Delta's vice president of recruitment in 2000. Tony is the CEO of rowback Nation Radio and talked to the brothers about being the best the Fraternity can be during hardships. "Tony spoke about how he was one of the founding fathers of Iowa Delta when they were rechartered," Hunter Hildebrand '23 said. "ey had no idea what they were doing, but regardless they went with no fear. He related that to these unprecedented times for recruitment and really inspired us." Lastly, we met with Michael Seraphin, Oregon State '04, who is also a Ruck Leadership Institute mentor. Michael had brothers discuss their own SigEp journey and the reasons behind joining the Fraternity when they were new members. "It was awesome to have someone come in and talk about vulnerability and the SigEp experience," Austin Ash '22 said. "Being open about your experiences and having tough conversations is one of the main ways we can be more Balanced Men and improve the SigEp experience."
