Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Name _____________________________ Graduation Year _____________________ Address ____________________________ __________________________________ City _______________________________ State __________ Zip ________________ Phone _____________________________ Email ______________________________ Andrew Wade '12 had no intentions of joining Greek life when he started school at Drake University, but his PMAC convinced him to go through the recruitment process. "He told me there would be free food and it would be a good way to meet people on campus," Andrew said, "so I figured why not." After three days, he ultimately chose to join Iowa Delta Chapter because he liked the concept of a dry house, no pledge system, and enjoyed interacting with the guys. "e fact that they were tops on the street in grades and athletics made it easier to sell the idea to my parents," Andrew said. "Driving to the Chapter House on Bid Day was one of the most incredible feelings in the world." During his first semester in the Chapter House, Andrew felt like he was struggling to make connections with his brothers. "I don't think I truly understood what it meant to be in a fraternity and how to be involved," Andrew said. "After I joined the flag football team, we qualified for the National Flag Football Championships in Tampa. Over that winter break trip I developed much stronger relationships with the guys on the team." When he came back for his second semester, everything took off from there. "Being in Sigma Phi Epsilon made me feel like I was part of something bigger than myself," Andrew said. "It made me want to be a better son, brother, friend, and boyfriend. It held me accountable until I was able to hold myself accountable." Andrew served the brotherhood as vice president of programming from the spring of his sophomore year through the fall semester of his junior year. As a member of the executive team, Andrew was proud to represent Iowa Delta at the Carlson Leadership Academy. Planning and participating in Chapter events were some of his favorite things to do as an active member. In all four years that Andrew was an active member, the Chapter won the DG Anchor Splash swimming relays. Andrew also completed his first triathlon as an undergraduate with two brothers. Today, Andrew enjoys staying in touch with his brothers in the Denver area. "We used to get together at least once a week pre-COVID-19," Andrew said. "We still stay in touch on a virtual basis daily." ough he lives out of state, Andrew is excited to get more involved with Iowa Delta now that the Chapter has the ability to do more virtually. He was also very impressed with the improvements made to the Chapter House when he visited three years ago for a brother's wedding. rough his position with Wilshire Group, Andrew has been part of the complex process of building a hospital in the Denver area during a pandemic. "It's tough," Andrew said. "Regulations are constantly changing and hospitals need to balance the safety of the patient with the financial security of the organization." is has sparked quite a bit of change that may have taken nearly five years to be done, but instead was accomplished in only five months. "As with any other organization impacted by the pandemic, we are learning how to adapt to the times," Andrew said. Telehealth has become a staple in the industry and will allow doctors to see more patients while reducing the spread of common illness. Outside of work, Andrew spends time with his wife, their two dogs, Tocino and Nike, and their cat, Leia. ey love to travel and have visited 15 countries and 37 states. Andrew keeps himself busy training and working out. Two years ago, he completed his first ironman and hopes to participate in the Des Moines Half Ironman next year. He also hosts a daily podcast covering the Iowa Hawkeyes on the Locked On Sports Network, the third- largest sports podcast network in the country. He says that if any brothers find themselves in the Denver area, they should reach out to him to grab a beer. You can reach Andrew at wade.n.andrew@gmail.com.
