WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM SEPTEMBER 9-15, 2020 UCW 19 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Movie Night The very last Blockbuster store, in Bend, Oregon, is offering De- schutes County residents three one-night sleepovers through Airbnb on Sept. 18, 19 and 20 for $4 — about the cost of a video rental, Oddee reported. Lucky movie lov- ers will have a pull-out couch, bean bags and pillows for their view- ing comfort, plus 2-liter bottles of Pepsi and snacks to enjoy during a marathon of "new releases" from the '90s. "Nothing can replace go- ing to the store with loved ones to browse the shelves and find a movie that suits whatever mood you're in," said Sandi Harding, the store manager. Awesome People living around Olten, Switzerland, got a surprise on Aug. 14 when it began snowing cocoa powder. Strong winds that morning distributed the cocoa dust from a malfunctioning venti- lation system at the Lindt & Spru- engli chocolate factory nearby, delivering enough to cover at least one car, the Associated Press reported. The company offered cleaning services, but no one took them up on the offer. The ventila- tion system has been repaired. Putting on the Brakes Organizers of Philadelphia's 12th Annual Naked Bike Ride canceled the Aug. 29 event because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Associ- ated Press reported. Ride organizer Maria Serrahima said she hopes people will be able to return next year and that riders are "taking ad- vantage of the emptier streets and riding — masks up." The Philly Na- ked Bike Ride attracts thousands of riders and covers a 10-mile course taking in the city's landmarks such as Independence Hall and the Lib- erty Bell. Least Competent Criminals Herbert McClellan, 27, took ad- vantage of a distracted clerk at a Speedway gas station in Clearwa- ter, Florida, on Aug. 18 to snatch about $100 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets, according to police, who were alerted by store employ- ees a few hours later when McClel- lan returned to the store to claim the $30 prize offered by one of the tickets. Fox13 reported McClellan was charged with petit theft and dealing in stolen property. Question: [Spoiler Alert] How could you watch Ozark's "Fire Pink" episode, with Tom Pelphrey in the taxi, and not just hand him an Emmy? What are the odds he's still alive? —Cheryl Matt Roush : Tom Pelphrey is alive and well, but I'm afraid the same can't be said for Ben, the tragic character he played in what has to be seen as a breakthrough per- formance. I agree that he should have made the Emmy cut, but with multiple nominees from "Succes- sion" and "The Morning Show" in the supporting actor category among other Emmy favorites, he wasn't able to get traction against such high-profile competition. It's a shame, because his arc was argu- ably the most powerful in "Ozark's" terrific third season. And it's not like the Emmy voters are ignoring "Ozark," which got 18 nominations this year. This oversight stings, though, because this was his only shot. I look forward to seeing what opportunities come his way after this memorable role. Along with a kickass kicker, the ABC drama's series finale re- teamed Fitz and Simmons (Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge), the star-crossed brainiacs fans have loved since the pilot. Now that's a truly Mar- vel-ous endgame. Jeers to Comedy Central for screwing over its viewers. As the cable net shifts its focus to animated fare, two of its brightest gems —"The Other Two," starring Heléne Yorke and Drew Tarver, and the workplace hoot "South Side"— are being shipped to HBO Max, meaning now we have to pay even more to stream their sec- ond seasons.
