August 12, 2020 www.DesertMessenger.com 5 Former Council Member dies of COVID-19 The Salvation Army happenings Divisional Headquarters in Phoenix has notifi ed me that we will pos- sibly reopen sometime in early September. We will have to limit the number of shoppers to allow for social distancing. Face coverings will be required. Our acceptance of donations will be very different. You will be asked to sort your items into carts on the front porch so that we can hold them for 72 hours before we can process them. We will probably wait to take clothing and linens until a later time. We really are stocked with lots of nice clothing and bedding, so we do have a great selection for you. We are continuing to offer curbside sales. Since we are not open for shopping, please call and ask for what you would like. I can do a curb- side exact cash sale. Give it a try. It has been fun being able to provide this service. Nice to see some of our regular shoppers and meet some new folks, too. We can do these single person transactions outside at the curb in front of store. I also have items also listed on Facebook Marketplace and our Salva- tion Army Thrift Store PAGE and group. How about a large popcorn ma- chine, oversize ladies' bike, Revere percolator, Harveys seatbelt purse, roof vent, and some antiques. Take a look. Even though your Quartzsite Salvation Army Thrift Store has been closed, your Quartzsite Salvation Army Service Center has been very active these past several months. This is where we service the needs in our community. We have responded to several QFD and QPD calls and to many individuals and other agencies to service those needing cloth- ing, food, water, medical equipment, diapers, housing, school supplies, referrals, and lots more. We are both entities in one facility at 101 South Moon Mountain. Parents with school age children, please know we do have some read- ing/activity books and school supplies for the kiddos. Please call for in person pick up. As long as we have memories, yesterday remains. As long as we have hope, tomorrow waits. As long as we have love, today is beautiful. As long as we have GOD, anything and everything is possible. AMEN ~ J. Tesh Be happy. Pastor Bruce was led by the Holy Spirit to begin an evangelistic and healing ministry. He preached the Word of God dur- ing church services, evangelistic crusades, camp meetings, confer- ences, retreats and wherever there was an opportunity to see people start a relationship with Jesus. Pastor Bruce was fi rst appointed to Quartzsite Town Council on June 13, 2017 to fi ll the vacancy of his de- ceased friend, Carol Kelley. He was then elected in 2018 as a write-in candidate for the 2-year seat, and re- signed early in 2019 to answer God's Call. Bruce had also served as Chair- man of the Hi Jolly Cemetery Board and Western Area Council of Gov- ernments (WACOG) for many years. In a post from Bruce just before he fell ill, he quoted (John 14:6). "God has given us another future 'promised land' – Heaven. Jesus declared that no one comes to the Father, but through Him." Pastor Bruce was hospitalized and fought a courageous month- long battle until his heart gave out on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Pas- tor Bruce was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Dean Swart (Linda) and several nieces and nephews. Plans to have a Celebration of Life in Pastor Bruce's honor are ten- tatively scheduled for November, 2020. The exact date, time, and place will be announced later. Thank you to everyone who came out and voted in the August Primary! I look forward to a bright future for Quartzsite! ~Starr BearCat Town of Quartzsite Council Member • Birth • Obituary • Anniversary Place it FREE in the: Desert Messenger! 928-916-4235 Got something to share?
