The program is open to any child who is enrolled in Cleveland County Schools. The program will operate from 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. The cost will be $85.00 per week, $80.00 per week for additional siblings. The weekly fee includes the cost for all field trips; parents are responsible for any meals purchased while on field trips and spend- ing money the child may need. Students will be charged on a weekly basis and WILL NOT BE CHARGED FOR THE FULL WEEKS THEY DO NOT ATTEND. Payment is due on Monday in advance each week. We will participate in the Cleveland County Schools Free Lunch Program. The lunches will begin on June 10th and run through August 20th. We will provide a weekly menu for parents with children enrolled in the program. A snack will be provided in the morning and afternoon. Children will be divided into separate groups depending on grade and enrollment. Other activities will be geared toward age and will include water days (with special projects); visits from the fire department and swim- ming at Gardner Webb and Shelby City Park for 2nd – 5th Grades. The summer program will be going on field trips, which may include the Hiddenite Emerald Mine, Dan Nicholas Park, Discovery Place, Tweetsie Railroad and Hickory Dickory Dock. All students will be required to purchase a $10.00 camp T-shirt to wear on each field trip. A full set of operational policies and field trips along with a weekly schedule will be available to parents with children in the program. Partnership for End-of-Life Issues “Funeral Home Tours” – Tour includes a look into the embalming room (optional), a visit to the selection room, and presentation by a funeral service professional discussing pre-needs, pre-planning, cremation, and ways to memorialize your loved ones. South Mountains State Park Summer Kid’s Club Join a Park Ranger this summer to learn all sorts of fun stuff about water critters, trees, animals, and fish just to name a few. Programs will be offered now to August 19th. The same program will be offered twice a week every Tuesday at 11:00 am and Thursday at 2:00 pm. See below for program schedule and descriptions. July 1 – “Skulls and Skins” – Join a Park Ranger and learn about some of South Mountains animals and their adaptations. Please meet at the Picnic Shelter in the Jacob Fork Parking Area. 7/3 – “Animals of the South Mountains” – Join a Park Ranger and learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home. The program will begin at 11:00 am in the Visitor Center auditorium. “Black Bears: Majestic Creatures of the Wild” – How dangerous are black bears? Can we co-exist? Why are black bears so unique? What should I do if I see a black bear? The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center. 7/4 & 7/11– “Tree ID Hike” – Join a Park Ranger for a 1.0 mile hike along the Hemlock Nature Trail. Tree identification will be the focus of this hike. Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am. “Creatures of the Night” – Meet in the Visitor Center auditorium at 2:00 pm to learn about some of our local nocturnal creatures. Note: Thi program will NOT have any live specimens. 7/10 – “Animals of the South Mountains” – Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home. Join a Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 for this fun activity. 7/24 & 7/25– “Streamside Hike” – Join a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am for a streamside hike along theh Jacob Fork River. “What’s in the Water?” – How many different kinds of critters live in the river?? Join a Park Ranger in the stream to turn over some rocks and learn more about what you might find there. Come prepared to get wet!! Meet at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm. 7/31 – “Animals of the South Mountains” – Join a Park Ranger and learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home. The program will begin at 11:00 am in the Visitor Center auditorium. “Birds of Prey” – Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm and learn about some of the birds of prey found in the South Mountains. You will learn about the distinguishing characteristics of these animals, and find out why they are called birds of prey. The program is free and open to all young adults who wish to attend. There will be special events throughout the summer and ou can read books on your reading level for fantastic prizes. Now-8/5 – Make A Splash @Your Library Children’s Summer Reading Program - June 14-August 5, 2010, 10:00-11:00 AM – Come to the Cleveland County Library system and Make a Splash with our Children’s Summer Reading Program. The program is for children ages pre-school to 6th grade will meet every Wednesday. Children will read books on their reading leveland the books must come from the library. Prizes will be awarded for the number of books read. Books are recorded on a reading log, which is provided by the library. Cleveland County Memorial Library now offers Mango Languages Online Database – The Cleveland County Memorial Library is now proud to offer Mango Languages. Mango Languages is an online language learning system that helps you learn a variety of foreign languages, such as Spanish, Italian, French, German, Russian and English as a Second Language. It uses real life situations and actual conversations to teach a new language. You can utilize Mango Languages Basic Courses to learn some basic words and phrases for your business trip or an overseas vaca- tion. You can also utilize Mango Languages Complete Courses, to learn more than just basic language skills. Mango Languages ccan be accessed both in the Library and from your home. You can access mango Langauges by clicking on the Mango Icon on the Cleveland County Memorial Library website (http://www.ccml.org).
