Social distancing measures and routine cleanings will be put into place and poll workers will be provided appropriate personal protective equipment. Election worker duties include staffing polling places during early voting and on Election Day, setting up and closing down voting enclosures, checking in voters, issuing ballots and assisting voters upon request. Interested individuals must be U.S. citizens; registered voters in Cumberland County and available to attend required training. To serve as a poll worker, you must be a registered voter. You may check your registration status at https://vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/. To register to vote, go to https://www.ncsbe.gov/Voters/Registering-to-Vote. Poll workers are compensated for attending training and for working during early voting and on Election Day. Interested registered voters can complete the online application by going to electionready.net. Based on a new state law passed earlier this month, precinct officials' unemployment benefits will not be affected by the compensation received for working the polls during the 2020 General Election. Precinct officials may not be a candidate or relative of a candidate in the election. ey also may not be an elected government official, hold office with a political party or be a manager or treasurer for a candidate or political party. ey are not allowed to serve at the same polling place as a spouse, child, spouse of a child, sister or brother. Animal Control staff will be wearing masks and observing social distance protocol and asks members of the public to adhere to face covering and social distancing recommendations while they are in the building. Please call 910-321-6852 to schedule an appointment. e North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is allocating $35 million in federal funding to local health departments to support the COVID-19 response. e Cumberland County Department of Public Health will receive $733,988 to support COVID-19 staffing, infection controls, testing and tracing. "Since the start of this pandemic the Public Health Department has been critical to identifying cases, investigating contact tracing and slowing the spread of COVID-19," Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green said. "ese funds will offer a financial reprieve so that we can continue the aggressive approach to protecting Cumberland County. We will share additional details about how funds will be used in the coming weeks." North Carolina's local health departments are on the frontlines supporting people in getting tested for COVID-19 and knowing if they have been exposed. Testing and contact tracing are core public health activities and key components of North Carolina's strategy to responsibly ease restrictions, while continuing to slow the spread COVID-19. ese responsibilities are in addition to their ongoing work to promote health and prevent disease. is one-time, non-recurring funding is part of NCDHHS' cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC), which awards annual funding to state, local and territorial health departments to support vector-borne disease surveillance and response. e coverage period runs from the beginning of the 2020 calendar year through the end of FY 2021-22.
