8 www.DesertMessenger.com 2nd Blythe River Blues Festival May 25th By Joanne Winer Last year, Blythe Ca. hosted its very first Blues Festival at the Quechan Marina Park, and it was such a huge success that they are doing it again this Memorial Day weekend on May 25. The park is located by taking the first exit after the agriculture station at the west side of the bridge going into Blythe (Riviera Dr.) and turning right at the stop sign. The park is right on the river, and has plenty of parking and boat docking available. The event will again be opened by Quartzsite musician Paul Winer, playing boogie woogie blues with Ralph Martin on one string washtub bass. Last year, when the power went off, he provided the only acoustic music of the show and kept it going until the power came back on!) He will start the show at 11 a.m. Headlining the blues festival this year will be guitarist and well-known bluesman Eric Gales. Also performing to the crowds throughout the day and evening will be many other bands, including Junior Watson, The Record Company, Cadillac Zack, and back for another year, Fran Banish. Another group that will also be playing will be The South Main Street Blues Band. Be sure to bring a chair, and something to keep you cool--hats, umbrellas, etc. since it is outdoors and will be hot--there will be lots of shady areas to sit near the music, and there will also be food vendors and a beer garden. You can even bring towels, blankets or pop-ups for shade as well. Tickets are on sale now at the Blythe Chamber of Commerce, and in Quartzsite at the Reader's Oasis Bookstore and the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce. Be sure to come on out and listen to some of the best blues music in this area, and have some great family fun!! Tickets are $15.00 per person in advance or at the door. For more information, please call Blythe Chamber of Commerce at 760-922-8166.
