By Lora Pink She's 88 and has lost her only two children, and both husbands. "Bea" has lived in Quartzsite for almost 30 years. She discovered her biological father had another family and after 56 years I was able to help fi nd him. They just reunited for the fi rst time this last month when he drove out from Ohio to meet her. Reunited, long lost siblings, through the eyes of a 5 year-old boy meeting his sister 27 years his el- der---and the eyes of a 88 year-old woman who thought she was totally alone on this earth. Haskell Clark fathered a baby girl in 1932. Arthell came into this world as if she knew she was to be a lone traveler through it. At the age of 2 her mother took her from her biological father and remarried her stepfather who raised Arthell (Bea) as his own. No one ever shared the secrets of her life with her, she just knew she didn't belong. At the age of 16, she packed her bag an went out into the world to conquer it. She had 2 sons and was content for short periods of time, but it was always in the back of her mind, won- dering who she was and where did she belong. In 1964, she received a letter form Haskell Clark telling her he was her biological father. They decided to meet and Arthell drove back to Ohio. She was able to get some questions answered and also met a little boy, Robert (Bob) age 5. Haskell intro- duced her to Bob as "the lady from California." Bob felt a connection with the lady and never forgot the en- counter. Haskell passed away 3 years later. Arthell's much younger siblings were placed in orphanages and foster care until they aged out. When he got older, Bob tried to look for the lady from California for several years but was unsuccessful. But still never for- got her. Arthell would wonder about him but didn't know how to fi nd him. Then through technology and the historical society, someone recog- nized a name, and things started to come together. Phone numbers were obtained and Arthell was able to talk to her brother Bob for the fi rst time since he was 5 years old. She also learned that she had 2 sis- ters, Carol who had passed away and Lori Ann, whom she was also able to talk to for the fi rst time. Arthell and Bob now visit on the phone on a weekly basis and are getting to know one another. Bob was able to come visit in May, 2020. Many siblings are separated for a myriad of reasons, and although re- unions can be joyful, they can also pose emotional challenges. Sometimes when we're alone in this world, we're lucky enough to fi nd that friend who we have a heart connection with, but there's just something about the blood ties. Even if not raised together you'll see and feel the connection to the heart. Everyone deserves to have and be- long to their tribe. I cannot describe the joy I feel at being a part of this long awaited re- union! This has blessed me more than words can describe. Quartzsite Events Online: www.QuartzsiteCalendar.com
